Randomized Controlled TrialThe effect of prophylactic intravenous tranexamic acid on blood loss after vaginal delivery in women at low risk of postpartum haemorrhage: a double-blind randomised controlled trial.
To determine the effect of prophylactic tranexamic acid (TA) on calculated and measured blood loss after vaginal delivery in women at low risk of postpartum haemorrhage. ⋯ Prophylactic TA reduces blood loss after vaginal delivery in women with a low risk of postpartum haemorrhage. The prophylactic use of TA may reduce blood loss complications and enhance maternal health.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyComparison of neonatal outcomes in women with gestational diabetes with moderate hyperglycaemia on metformin or glibenclamide--a randomised controlled trial.
Two oral hypoglycaemic agents, metformin and glibenclamide, have been compared with insulin in separate large randomised controlled trials and have been found to be as effective as insulin in gestational diabetes. However, very few trials have compared metformin with glibenclamide. ⋯ In a south Indian population with gestational diabetes, metformin was associated with better neonatal outcomes than glibenclamide.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyThe NIFTY study: a multicentre randomised double-blind placebo-controlled trial of nifedipine maintenance tocolysis in fetal fibronectin-positive women in threatened preterm labour.
In an unselected group of women with signs of preterm labour, maintenance tocolysis is not effective in the prevention of preterm birth and does not improve neonatal outcome. Among women with signs of preterm labour, those who are fetal fibronectin positive have an increased risk of preterm birth. We investigated whether maintenance tocolysis with nifedipine would delay delivery and improve neonatal outcome in women with threatened preterm labour and a positive fetal fibronectin status. ⋯ In women with threatened preterm labour who are fetal fibronectin positive, maintenance tocolysis with nifedipine does not seem to prolong pregnancy, nor reduce length of NICU admission.

Randomized Controlled TrialIntra-uterine bupivacaine and levobupivacaine.
The study aimed to compare the effect of intrauterine bupivacaine and levobupivacaine with placebo in reducing the post-procedure discomfort owing to pain caused by suction endometrial sampling. ⋯ Intrauterine levobupivacaine or bupivacaine is effective in decreasing the pain associated with the endometrial biopsy and curettage under propofol sedation.

Randomized Controlled TrialUse of additional oxytocin to reduce blood loss at elective caesarean section: A randomised control trial.
The purpose of this prospective, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was to assess the effects of a 5-IU oxytocin bolus and placebo infusion versus a 5-IU oxytocin bolus and 30 IU infusion on the control of blood loss at elective lower segment caesarean section (C/S). ⋯ An additional oxytocin infusion after 5 IU oxytocin bolus infusion at elective C/S may reduce blood loss and required blood transfusion.
