Surgical androgen deprivation therapy in advanced prostate cancer in patients of African descent: comparison of biochemical efficacy of bilateral total and subcapsular orchidectomy.
Surgical androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) to treat advanced prostate cancer can be achieved either by bilateral total orchidectomy (BTO) or bilateral subcapsular orchidectomy (BSCO). However, biochemical and clinical equivalence between BTO and BSCO among native Africans is undocumented. ⋯ The two techniques of orchidectomy were effective in accomplishing androgen deprivation. They produced similar biochemical (testosterone and PSA) response.

A 10-year clinicopathological analysis of ovarian lesions in a tertiary hospital in Southern Nigeria.
Ovarian tumours are the most lethal of all gynaecological cancers and they are usually diagnosed in advanced stages when the prognosis is very poor. ⋯ There has been an increase in the number of malignant ovarian specimens in our centre. Though surface epithelial tumours were the most common category of ovarian tumours, overall, the mature cystic teratoma was the most common tumour. Serous cyst adenocarcinoma was the most common surface epithelial tumour and the most common malignant tumour.

The association of anthropometric indices and resistant hypertension among type 2 diabetes: a case study of patients attending Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital, Kenya.
Resistant hypertension has been identified as common among type 2 diabetics. Importantly, diabetes prevalence has been increasing in the recent past indicating a future rise in the frequency of resistant hypertension. This study determined the association of anthropometric indices as determinants of resistant hypertension compared to conventional hypertension among type 2 diabetes patients attending Kisii teaching and referral hospital (KTRH). ⋯ However, the Waist-Hip ratio (P=0.393) was not associated with resistant hypertension among type 2 diabetes patients attending Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital. These results expanded the understanding of risk factors of resistant hypertension among type 2 diabetics. Therefore, this study recommends comprehensive health promotion programs to encourage and promote lifestyle modification.

Prevalence of genitourinary infection in diabetic patients treated with SGLT 2 inhibitors.
Genitourinary infections are common in Diabetes patients compared to the general population more so in patients with Sodium glucose co transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) treatment , So, we did a study to find the prevalence of genitourinary infection in T2DM patients treated with SGLT2i. ⋯ We need to counsel the patients before starting SGLT2i regarding possible chance of getting genitourinary infection, proper genital hygiene, drinking plenty of water and consulting the doctor if any symptoms at the earliest.

Nearly 99% of neonatal deaths globally occur in low- and middle-income countries with about three-quarters of the neonatal deaths resulting from sepsis including those arising from cord infections. Thus, good cord care practices have the potential to reduce the neonatal deaths in low and middle-income countries such as Kenya. ⋯ Although mothers predominantly practiced the recommended cord care, some potentially deleterious practices were reported. There is need to encourage attendance to antenatal clinic in order to optimize umbilical cord care practices.
