Case ReportsPseudoaneurysm of the mitral-aortic intervalvular fibrosa as a complication after minimally invasive mitral valve repair.
Pseudoaneurysm of the mitral-aortic intervalvular body is a rare condition, which has been reported as a result of endocarditis, chest trauma or cardiac surgery. We describe here the first case after minimally invasive mitral valve repair. Such a complication may be overlooked in the early postoperative echocardiographic study and may lead to fistula formation, compression of adjacent structures, infection, or rupture. Both computed tomography and echocardiography provide a detailed anatomy of the pseudoaneurysm and its communication with the left ventricular outflow tract.

Comparative StudyPost-recurrence survival of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer after curative resection with or without induction/adjuvant chemotherapy.
Recently, the prognosis of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has improved, thanks to the standardization of adjuvant chemotherapy and the introduction of molecular-targeted drugs, notably epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors and other new anti-cancer agents. However, the survival characteristics and prognosis of patients with recurrent NSCLC after curative resection are not well understood. ⋯ The prognosis of patients with NSCLC recurrence after surgery is currently improving. Our results suggested two new prognostic factors, adjuvant chemotherapy and EGFR mutations, neither of which have been previously reported. Treatment strategies for postoperative recurrence should be established based on a more detailed subdivision of factors, such as histology and molecular markers, in the future.

Comparative StudyCardiac surgical outcomes in abdominal solid organ (renal and hepatic) transplant recipients: a case-matched study.
This study aims to investigate the outcomes of cardiac surgery in patients with abdominal solid organ transplants and to compare them with the case-matched population undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ Cardiac surgery can be performed in patients with abdominal solid organ tranpslant recipients with acceptable early morbidity and mortality. However, long-term survival in transplant patients is poor. Infection remains the most common cause of death.

Clinical and echocardiographic outcomes after implantation of the Trifecta aortic bioprosthesis: an initial single-centre experience.
The Trifecta valve (St. Jude Medical) was introduced into clinical practice as a tri-leaflet stented pericardial valve designed for supra-annular placement in the aortic position. The present study aims to evaluate the preliminary results with this new bioprosthesis. ⋯ The initial experience with the Trifecta valve bioprosthesis shows excellent outcomes with favourable early haemodynamics. Further studies with longer follow-up are needed to confirm those preliminary results.
