Comparison between PROFUND and PALIAR indexes in polypathological patients with advanced non-oncologic chronic diseases.
To compare the discrimination power of PROFUND and PALIAR indexes for predicting mortality in polypathological patients with advanced non-oncologic chronic disease. ⋯ In polypathological patients with advanced non-oncologic chronic disease, the PALIAR index had better discrimination power than PROFUND index at 66 months and there were no differences at 12 months.

Recent studies have shown that the C-reactive protein-to-albumin ratio (CAR) can predict the mortality in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of the present study was to investigate the utility of preoperative CAR for predicting postoperative overall and tumor free survival among HCC patients after radical surgery. ⋯ Preoperative CRP/Alb ratio is an independent prognostic marker with tumor free survival in patients with HCC after curative resection and the prognostic ability was comparable to other applied inflammation-based prognostic scores in both overall and tumor-free survival, especially at the early stage.

Airflow limitation in patients with heart failure: Prevalence and associated factors.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and heart failure (HF) are 2 diseases with high morbidity and mortality. The coexistence of these two diseases is estimated to be frequent, but has been poorly studied. ⋯ The prevalence of airflow limitation in patients with HF is high, with a significant degree of underdiagnosis. It seems reasonable to recommend performing a screening spirometry in these patients.
