Multicenter Study Observational Study
[Frequent users in paediatric emergency departments. Who are they? Why do they consult?]
To determine the prevalence of frequent Paediatric Emergency Departments users and to analyse their characteristics, comparing initial consultations and re-consultations. ⋯ Paediatric frequent users often ask for medical care in the Emergency Department before consulting their Primary Care physician. They present with less urgent processes and do not systematically need diagnostic or therapeutic interventions. Re-consultations make up a significant number of visits, in which more interventions are done and more children are admitted.

Multicenter Study Observational Study
[Clinical assessment of pain in Spanish Neonatal Intensive Care Units].
Clinical scales are currently the best method to assess pain in the neonate, given the impossibility of self-report in this age group. A study is designed with the aim of determining the current practices as regards the clinical assessment of pain in Spanish Neonatal Units and the factors associated with the use of clinical scales. ⋯ The majority of neonates admitted into Intensive Care in Spain do not receive a pain assessment. Many units still do not routinely use clinical scales, and there is a wide variation between those that do use them. These results could serve as a basis for preparing national guidelines as regards pain in the neonate.

Comparative Study
[Pulse oximetry versus electrocardiogram for heart rate assessment during resuscitation of the preterm infant].
Heart rate (HR) assessment is essential during neonatal resuscitation, and it is usually done by auscultation or pulse oximetry (PO). The aim of the present study was to determine whether HR assessment with ECG is as fast and reliable as PO during preterm resuscitation. ⋯ Reliable HR is obtained later with the PO than with the ECG during preterm resuscitation. PO underestimates HR in the first minutes of resuscitation.

Patients arriving in Paediatric Emergency Departments due to alcohol abuse is fairly common. The aim of this study is to determine the profile of the patients seen in the emergency room for acute ethanol intoxication. ⋯ The profile of the patient who arrives to emergency department with acute ethanol intoxication is a teenager who is seen on holiday nights, after a consumption of high proof alcoholic drinks, presents a moderate intoxication, and does not require hospitalisation.

To determine whether the availability of heated humidified high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) therapy was associated with a decrease in need for mechanical ventilation in neonates hospitalised with acute bronchiolitis. ⋯ The availability of HFNC reduces the need for non-invasive mechanical ventilation, allowing a safe and effective medical management of neonates with acute bronchiolitis.
