Polycystic ovary syndrome and abdominal fat: is there a relationship?
The aim of this study was to compare the distribution of fat tissue in non-obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome and those without the syndrome using dual-energy radiological densitometry. ⋯ Our study showed that non-obese polycystic ovary syndrome patients have a higher concentration of abdominal fat, which is a risk factor for increased cardiovascular risk and insulin resistance.ClinicalTrials.gov ID: NCT02467751.

Is the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio a marker for differentiating between benign and malignant submandibular gland masses?
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio on the differentiation of benign and malignant masses in the submandibular triangle. ⋯ This is the first study to demonstrate that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio can be used as a biomarker in submandibular gland masses and has prognostic significance in malignant masses. In addition to fine needle aspiration biopsy results, neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio can be used as a biomarker.

A retrospective analysis: the outcome of renal replacement therapies in critically ill children.
A few pediatric studies were present which focused on renal replacement therapy used for critically ill children. This research aimed to determine the ratio of utilization of intermittent hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy, and peritoneal dialysis, and to study the properties and outcomes of critically ill pediatric patients who underwent renal replacement therapy. ⋯ The outcome of children receiving renal replacement therapy seems to be related to their needs for vasoactive drugs and the severity of the underlying disease in the continuous renal replacement therapy group relative to the other groups.

Investigation of associations between apolipoprotein A5 and C3 gene polymorphisms with plasma triglyceride and lipid levels.
The aim of this study was to determine frequency and associations between APOA5 c.56C>G, -1131T>C, c.553G>T, and APOC3 -482C>T and SstI gene polymorphisms with hypertriglyceridemia. ⋯ For the first time in a population sample from Turkey, among the five polymorphisms of APOA5 and APOC3 genes investigated, APOC3 -482C>T and SstI polymorphisms were associated with elevated serum TG levels, while APOA5 c.56C>G, -1131T>C, and c.553G>T polymorphisms were not.
