Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparison of idrabiotaparinux with vitamin K antagonists for prevention of thromboembolism in patients with atrial fibrillation: the Borealis-Atrial Fibrillation Study.
Idrabiotaparinux, a long-acting inhibitor of factor Xa, was shown to be effective in the treatment of patients with venous thromboembolism. ⋯ If anything, despite its early termination, the idrabiotaparinux regimen studied suggested a comparable efficacy to dose-adjusted warfarin, with a lower bleeding risk.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyTreatment of submassive pulmonary embolism with tenecteplase or placebo: cardiopulmonary outcomes at 3 months: multicenter double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized trial.
Acute pulmonary embolism (PE) can worsen quality of life due to persistent dyspnea or exercise intolerance. ⋯ Treatment of patients with submassive pulmonary embolism with tenecteplase was associated with increased probability of a favorable composite outcome.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparison of fondaparinux with low molecular weight heparin for venous thromboembolism prevention in patients requiring rigid or semi-rigid immobilization for isolated non-surgical below-knee injury.
In several small studies, anticoagulant therapy reduced the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with isolated lower-limb injuries. ⋯ Fondaparinux 2.5 mg day(-1) may be a valuable therapeutic option over nadroparin 2850 anti-FXa IU day(-1) for preventing VTE after below-knee injury requiring prolonged immobilization in patients with additional risk factors.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA randomized controlled trial of fresh frozen plasma for treating venom-induced consumption coagulopathy in cases of Australian snakebite (ASP-18).
Venom-induced consumption coagulopathy (VICC) is a major effect of snake envenoming. ⋯ FFP administration after antivenom administration results in more rapid restoration of clotting function in most patients, but no decrease in discharge time. Early FFP administration (< 6-8 h) post-bite is less likely to be effective.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyActivated protein C attenuates pulmonary coagulopathy in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome.
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) frequently complicates critical illness. We hypothesized that an infusion of recombinant human activated protein C (rh-APC), a natural anticoagulant, would attenuate pulmonary coagulopathy and injury. ⋯ An infusion of rh-APC in patients with ARDS attenuates pulmonary coagulopathy and injury.
