Cochlear implantation is a major treatment option for severe-to-profound hearing loss. By insertion into the cochlea and stimulation of the cochlear nerve, cochlear implantation can improve the performance of hearing and speech performance of the implantees. The microenvironment of the cochlea is innate and gets disturbed in response to the insertion of a foreign body. ⋯ This review discusses the scenario of electrophysiological variation after early switch-on in <1 day postimplantation. Evidence has shown that fluctuations in impedance after implantation depend on the interplay between cell cover formation, fibrosis, electrode design, and electrical stimulation. Further studies addressing the correlation between impedance and clinical parameters are required to develop reliable biomarkers for better performance of cochlear implantation.

Gastric conduit is most widely used method for esophageal reconstruction. Despite its popularity, certain complications, such as anastomotic leakage and strictures, remain to be resolved. In the present study, we reviewed the outcomes of narrow gastric conduit compared to wide gastric conduit reconstruction. ⋯ The narrow gastric conduit is not inferior to the wide gastric conduit and can be considered an alternative option for gastric conduit preparation.

With the discovery of new biomarkers for the early detection of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), advancements in valid medication, and percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), the overall prognosis of AMI has improved remarkably. Nevertheless, challenges remain which require more difficult work to overcome. ⋯ With these novel methods, we believe that the infarction size after AMI will decrease, and myocardial injury-associated ventricular remodeling may be avoided. This review focuses on novel advances in the diagnosis and management of AMI.

Bibliometric analysis of the top 100 most-cited articles on video laryngoscope from 2011 to 2022.
The popularity of video laryngoscope (VL) has increased rapidly since its introduction in the late 1990s. However, a comprehensive overview of VLs evolution and impact is lacking, which merits further investigation. ⋯ By using bibliometric analysis and natural language processing methods, we effectively summarized the applications of VL in both clinical and teaching settings, particularly in reducing the risk of cross-infection during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 pandemic.

Increasing evidence has suggested a strong association of Q223R (rs1137101) and K109R (rs1137100) polymorphisms in leptin receptor (LEPR) gene with susceptibility of breast cancer (BC), but inconsistent results were obtained. To provide a quantitative assessment of this association, a systematic review and meta-analysis was performed. ⋯ The available evidence suggests that Q223R polymorphism may be significantly associated with BC risk in African population. K109R polymorphism may be significantly associated with BC risk in Asian population.
