Differentiating gastric cancer and gastric lymphoma using texture analysis (TA) of positron emission tomography (PET).
Texture analysis (TA) can quantify intra-tumor heterogeneity using standard medical images. The present study aimed to assess the application of positron emission tomography (PET) TA in the differential diagnosis of gastric cancer and gastric lymphoma. ⋯ InertiaGLCM and entropyGLCM were the most discriminating features in differentiating gastric lymphoma from gastric cancer and low-grade gastric lymphoma from gastric cancer, respectively. PET TA can improve the differential diagnosis of gastric neoplasms, especially in tumors with similar degrees of fluorodeoxyglucose uptake.

Body mass index is a promising predictor of response to oral rehydration saline in children with vasovagal syncope.
Vasovagal syncope (VVS) greatly impairs quality of life. The therapeutic efficacy of oral rehydration saline (ORS) for unselected VVS patients is not satisfactory due to the diverse mechanisms of the disease. Body mass index (BMI) was demonstrated to reflect blood volume to a certain extent. Therefore, the present study explored the capability of BMI to predict the therapeutic response of children with VVS to ORS treatment. ⋯ Prior to treatment, baseline BMI is a promising predictor of response to ORS in children with VVS.

Inter- and intra-observer variability for the assessment of coronary artery tree description and lesion EvaluaTion (CatLet©) angiographic scoring system in patients with acute myocardial infarction.
Previously, we developed a novel Coronary Artery Tree description and Lesion EvaluaTion (CatLet©) angiographic scoring system, which was capable of accounting for the variability in the coronary anatomy and assisting in the risk-stratification of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Our preliminary study revealed that the CatLet score better predicted clinical outcomes for AMI patients than the Synergy between Percutaneous Coronary Intervention with Taxus and Cardiac Surgery score. However, the reproducibility of the CatLet score in both inter- and intra-observer remains to be evaluated. ⋯ The reproducibility of the CatLet angiographic scoring system for evaluation of the coronary angiograms ranged from substantial to excellent. The high reproducibility of the CatLet angiographic scoring system will boost its clinical application to patients with AMI.

A three-microRNA panel in serum as novel biomarker for papillary thyroid carcinoma diagnosis.
Accumulating evidence has revealed that circulating microRNAs (miRNAs) can serve as non-invasive biomarkers for cancer diagnosis. This study aimed to identify differentially expressed miRNAs in serum which might become potential biomarkers for non-invasive diagnosis of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC). ⋯ We identify a three-miRNA panel in serum which might serve as a promising biomarker for PTC diagnosis.

With the changing lifestyle and the acceleration of aging in the Chinese population, the incidence and mortality of colorectal cancer (CRC) have risen in the last decades. On the contrary, the incidence and mortality of CRC have continued to decline in the USA since the 1980s, which is mainly attributed to early screening and standardized diagnosis and treatment. Rectal cancer accounts for the largest proportion of CRC in China, and its treatment regimens are complex. ⋯ And with the development of comprehensive treatment methods such as neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy, the post-operative quality of life and prognosis of patients with rectal cancer have improved. We believe that the inflection point of the rising incidence and mortality of rectal cancer will appear in the near future in China. This article reviewed the current status and research progress on surgical therapy of rectal cancer in China.
