ReviewPrevention and treatment of viral respiratory infections by traditional Chinese herbs.
This review focuses on current knowledge of traditional Chinese herbs on prevention and treatment of viral respiratory infections, especially caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndromes (SARS) virus, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza viruses. ⋯ Traditional Chinese herbs could directly inhibit pathogens infecting respiratory tract, or coordinate the activity of immune system to avoid or relieve infections. With the emergence of antidrug pathogens or new variants, Chinese herbs give strong evidence to protect human health.

ReviewEfficacy and safety of insulin treatment in type 2 diabetes using a new index called glucose safety control index.
To recommend an index named glucose safety control index (GSCI) to evaluate the efficacy and safety for insulin regimens. ⋯ According to the GSCI ratio, long-acting basal insulin therapy tended to be superior to NPH therapy, oral hypoglycemic agents plus basal insulin therapy tended to be superior to premixed insulin therapy, noninsulin antidiabetic agents and premixed insulin therapy was comparable, and basal-bolus insulin therapy tended to be superior to premixed insulin therapy in type 2 diabetes.

ReviewNeuropsychiatric disorders and cognitive dysfunction in patients with Cushing's disease.
To review the main neuropsychiatric disorders and cognitive deficits in patients with Cushing's disease (CD) and the associated pathophysiological mechanisms underlying CD. These mechanistic details may provide recommendations for preventing or treating the cognitive impairments and mood disorders in patients with CD. ⋯ Brain atrophy and hippocampal changes caused by excess secretion of cortisol are thought to play a significant pathophysiological role in the etiology of changes in cognitive function and psychiatric disturbances. The exact mechanisms by which GCs induce hippocampal volume loss are not very clear till now. So, further investigations into the mechanisms by which GCs affect the brain and the effective coping strategy are essential.

Review Meta AnalysisA comparative study on the medium-long term results of endovascular repair and open surgical repair in the management of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms.
Although it is generally acknowledged that patients with ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (rAAA) obtain the greatest benefit from endovascular repair (EVAR), convincing evidence on the medium-long term effect is lacking. The aim of this study was to compare and summarize published results of rAAA that underwent EVAR with open surgical repair (OSR). ⋯ On the basis of this systematic review, rAAA EVAR results in less blood use for transfusion, shorter operation time, shorter intensive care unit and hospital stays, and lower 30-day mortality. However, in the medium-long term, it is not associated with a reduction in all-cause mortality.
