Randomized Controlled TrialEffect of ulinastatin on the inflammatory response after video-assisted thoracic lobectomy in patients with lung cancer: a randomized controlled study.
The first-line treatment for lung cancer is surgical resection, and one-lung ventilation (OLV) is the most basic anesthetic management method in lung surgery. During OLV, inflammatory cytokines are released in response to the lung tissue damage and promote local and contralateral lung damage through the systemic circulation. We designed a randomized, prospective study to evaluate the effect of the urinary trypsin inhibitor (UTI) ulinastatin on the inflammatory response after video-assisted thoracic lobectomy in patients with lung cancer. ⋯ Administering UTI attenuated the anti-inflammatory response, in terms of INF-γ expression and the IFN-γ/IL-4 ratio, after video-assisted thoracic surgery in lung cancer patients.

Randomized Controlled TrialSerum metabolomic profiling reveals potential biomarkers in assessing the management of women with polycystic ovary syndrome: a randomized controlled trial.
As one of the most common endocrinal disorders for women at childbearing age, the diagnostic criteria of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have been defined differently among different international health organizations. Phenotypic heterogeneity of PCOS also brings about difficulties for its diagnosis and management assessment. Therefore, more efficient biomarkers representing the progression of PCOS are expected to be integrated into the monitoring of management process using metabolomic approaches. ⋯ The six metabolites were representative of the remission of PCOS through medical intervention, making them a set of potential biomarkers for assessing the outcome of PCOS management.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEfficacy and safety of a parylene-coated occluder for atrial septal defect: a prospective, multi-center, randomized controlled clinical trial.
Nitinol-containing devices are widely used in clinical practice. However, there are concerns about nickel release after nitinol-containing device implantation. This study aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of a parylene-coated occluder vs. a traditional nitinol-containing device for atrial septal defect (ASD). ⋯ The efficacy of a parylene-coated ASD occluder is non-inferior to that of a traditional uncoated ASD occluder. The parylene-coated occluder prevents nickel release after device implantation and may be an alternative for ASD, especially in patients with a nickel allergy.

Randomized Controlled TrialDevelopment and validation of a nomogram for predicting survival of breast cancer patients with ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node metastasis.
Breast cancer patients with ipsilateral supraclavicular lymph node metastasis (ISLNM) but without distant metastasis are considered to have a poor prognosis. This study aimed to develop a nomogram to predict the overall survival (OS) of breast cancer patients with ISLNM but without distant metastasis. ⋯ In this study, we established and validated a novel nomogram for predicting survival of patients with ISLNM. This nomogram may, to some extent, allow clinicians to more accurately estimate prognosis and to make personalized therapeutic decisions for individual patients with ISLNM.

Randomized Controlled TrialShort-term combined treatment with exenatide and metformin for overweight/obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome.
Obesity and insulin resistance (IR) are common features of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Metformin (MET) increases insulin sensitivity, but it is associated with unsatisfactory weight loss. The glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist exenatide has been shown to reduce weight and IR in patients with diabetes. This study aimed to explore the therapeutic effects of exenatide once-weekly (QW) combined with MET on body weight, as well as metabolic and endocrinological parameters in overweight/obese women with PCOS. ⋯ COM therapy was more effective than MET alone in reducing body weight, BMI, and waist circumference, and improving insulin sensitivity in overweight/obese women with PCOS, with acceptable short-term side effects.
