Glioblastoma stem cells resistant to temozolomide-induced autophagy.
Recent studies have demonstrated the existence of a small fraction of cells with features of primitive neural progenitor cells and tumor-initiating function in brain tumors. These cells might represent primary therapeutic target for complete eradication of the tumors. This study aimed to determine the resistant phenotype of glioblastoma stem cells (GSCs) to temozolomide (TMZ) and to explore the possible molecular mechanisms underlying TMZ resistance. ⋯ The GSCs display strong capability of tumor's resistance to TMZ. This resistance is probably contributed by the CD133(+) cells with down-regulation of autophagy-related proteins. Future treatment should target this small population of cancer stem cells in tumors to improve survival of patients.

RANTES In1.1C allele polymorphisms in 13 Chinese ethnic populations.
The In1.1C single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) allele results in reduced RANTES transcription, which is associated with increased frequency of HIV-1 infection, and rapid progression to AIDS among HIV-1-infected individuals. This study aimed to study the mutant frequency and polymorphism of RANTES in Chinese populations. ⋯ The prevalence of the RANTES In1.1C allele varies substantially between the South-west groups and North-west groups. There is no significant difference between the groups with different languages, which suggests that language relationship is not consistent with the genetic relationship. These results have important implications for the design, assessment, and implementation of HIV-1 vaccines.

Gene mapping of autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa in a Chinese family.
The autosomal dominant form of retinitis pigmentosa (ADRP) can be caused by mutations in 14 genes and further loci remains to be identified. This study was intended to identify mutations in a Chinese pedigree with ADRP. ⋯ The affected gene linked to the 19q13.4 in a Chinese family with ADRP, which is different from other mutations at the same loci in other Chinese families.

Presence of extensive intraductal component in patients undergoing breast conservative surgery predicts presence of residual disease in subsequent completion mastectomy.
Local recurrence remains a serious problem among patients undergoing breast conservative surgery. This study aimed at identifying risk factors for residual disease after breast conservative surgery. ⋯ The presence of EIC is a significant risk factor for residual disease in patients after breast conservative surgery. Our findings may suggest the indicated value of completion mastectomy in patients with EIC during initial breast conservative surgery to decrease the risk of subsequent local failure.

Meta AnalysisHLA-DQ, DR allele polymorphism of type 1 diabetes in the Chinese population: a meta-analysis.
Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a multifactorial disease. This article aims to evaluate the relationship between allele polymorphism of HLA-DQ, DR and T1D in the Chinese population. ⋯ In the Chinese population, some HLA-DQ, DR alleles are relevant to T1D which are not totally the same as non-Chinese populations.
