Nonprescription naloxone and syringe sales in the midst of opioid overdose and hepatitis C virus epidemics: Massachusetts, 2015.
To determine the prevalence of nonprescription naloxone and sterile syringe sales, factors associated with nonprescription sales, geospatial access to nonprescription naloxone and syringe-selling pharmacies, and targets for potential interventions. ⋯ Access to sterile syringes through nonprescription sales is strong across Massachusetts, and although more than 350 pharmacies (45%) reported stocking and selling naloxone to prevent opioid overdose deaths, there is much room for improvement in access and training among pharmacy staff members.

The association between family caregivers' involvement in managing older adults' medications and caregivers' information-seeking behavior.
1) To explore the association between family caregivers' involvement in managing care recipients' medications and their information-seeking behavior related to caregiving; and 2) to examine the sources used by caregivers when seeking information. ⋯ Specific caregiver responsibilities, such as assisting with medication management activities, are associated with caregivers' information-seeking behavior related to care recipients' health. Health care providers, including pharmacists, can play an important role in helping caregivers to identify proper resources for information and in educating them about medication management.

Pharmacists' perceptions regarding the impact of hydrocodone rescheduling on prescription volume, workflow management, and patient outcomes.
To determine (1) pharmacists' perceptions of how rescheduling of hydrocodone combination products (HCPs) from Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Schedule III to DEA Schedule II has influenced prescription volume and revenue, pharmacy workflow management, and patient outcomes; and (2) whether perceptions differed between pharmacists who support versus those who oppose HCP rescheduling. ⋯ Results showed that legislative efforts, such as rescheduling HCPs, influenced pharmacists' perceptions of practice and patient outcomes. Currently, little is known regarding the impact of HCP rescheduling on pharmacy practice. As new laws are passed to address the opioid epidemic in America, more research will be needed to determine whether legislation is an effective means for managing appropriate access to HCPs and other narcotic analgesics.

Community pharmacy transition of care services and rural hospital readmissions: A case study.
To explore community pharmacist involvement in the transition of care (TOC) process for patients discharged with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), heart failure (HF), pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or elective total hip or knee arthroplasty (THA/TKA). ⋯ Community pharmacist involvement in the TOC process may help to prevent readmissions for patients with AMI, HF, pneumonia, COPD, and elective THA/TKA. Patients are overall satisfied with community pharmacist involvement as they move from inpatient care to home. In addition, there are multiple barriers affecting access and adherence to medication therapy while at home, providing opportunities for pharmacist intervention and assistance.
