Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of a diabetes management program using selected HEDIS measures.
To evaluate the efficacy of a community-based, pharmacist-directed diabetes management program among managed care organization enrollees using National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA)-Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) performance measures. ⋯ A community pharmacy-based diabetes management program was effective in achieving A1C and blood pressure goals measured by NCQA-HEDIS performance standards. Program participants were statistically significantly more likely to achieve two of three HEDIS standards during a 9-month period.

Randomized Controlled TrialDisparities in pharmacists' patient education for Hispanics using antidepressants.
To assess pharmacists' provision of antidepressant information and to examine the effect of patient ethnicity and language skills on pharmacists' provision of information and patient education. ⋯ These findings suggest that Spanish-speaking patients may face disparities in the level of care received from community pharmacists. Interventions should be available to enhance pharmacists' communication with Spanish-speaking patients in an effort to facilitate safe and effective medication use.

Randomized Controlled TrialPharmacoepidemiology of potential alcohol-prescription drug interactions among primary care patients with alcohol-use disorders.
To report on the proportion of individuals with alcohol-use disorders who take prescription medications that could interact with alcohol and on the proportion who recall advice to avoid alcohol with their medications. ⋯ Practitioners who prescribe or dispense medications may need to enhance their efforts to advise patients about alcohol-drug interactions. Prescribing and dispensing medications that interact with alcohol present opportunities to administer alcohol screens and interventions.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialHumanistic outcomes in the hypertension and COPD arms of a multicenter outcomes study.
To evaluate the effects of pharmaceutical care on selected humanistic outcomes in patients with hypertension or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). ⋯ Although patients were not dissatisfied with traditional pharmacy care, they were more satisfied overall with the pharmaceutical care model.
