ReviewContinuous subcutaneous insulin infusion therapy: A primer on insulin pumps.
To summarize the role, benefits, and risks of continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) therapy for treating diabetes. ⋯ CSII is an attractive treatment option for many patients with diabetes. Given the widespread use of CSII, all health professionals should be familiar with the basic features of insulin pump technology, the potential risks and benefits of CSII, and how to troubleshoot common problems.

To describe (1) the international scope of counterfeit drugs, (2) international and U.S. anticounterfeiting initiatives, and (3) the enhanced roles and challenges facing pharmaceutical organizations and individual pharmacists to thwart counterfeit drugs. ⋯ Although consistent detection of counterfeit drugs is difficult, pharmacists can take several reasonable measures to lessen the chances they are dispensing counterfeit drugs. However, the increased role of pharmacists is accompanied by several important challenges involving increased expense and altered business practices.

ReviewSafety issues associated with commercially available energy drinks.
To describe benefits and adverse effects associated with the consumption of energy drinks. ⋯ The amounts of guarana, taurine, and ginseng found in popular energy drinks are far below the amounts expected to deliver either therapeutic benefits or adverse events. However, caffeine and sugar are present in amounts known to cause a variety of adverse health effects.
