Ideal combination of MRI sequences for perianal fistula classification and the evaluation of additional findings for readers with varying levels of experience.
The aim of our study was to assess the contribution of various magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) sequences in determining the type of perianal fistula and in obtaining critical information for surgical decisions, as well as to define the optimal combination of sequences for readers with varying levels of experience. ⋯ For experienced readers, combining FS-CE-T1W-GRE images with either T2W or STIR images collected in both the coronal and axial planes was sufficient to make an assessment before deciding the surgical extent of the procedure.

ReviewDual-energy CT revisited with multidetector CT: review of principles and clinical applications.
Although dual-energy CT (DECT) was first conceived in the 1970s, it was not widely used for CT indications. Recently, the simultaneous acquisition of volumetric dual-energy data has been introduced using multidetector CT (MDCT) with two X-ray tubes and rapid kVp switching (gemstone spectral imaging). Two major advantages of DECT are material decomposition by acquiring two image series with different kVp and the elimination of misregistration artifacts. ⋯ Iodine map images can quantify iodine uptake, and this approach may be more effective than obtaining non-contrast and post-contrast images for the diagnosis of a solid mass. Thus, computer-aided detection may be used more effectively in CT applications. DECT is a promising technique with potential clinical applications.

Case ReportsAcute abdomen caused by a small bowel perforation due to a clinically unsuspected fish bone.
We report the case of a 78-year-old woman with a three-day history of abdominal pain and vomiting. An abdominal plain film showed a distended small bowel loop and no signs of free intra-abdominal gas. ⋯ A laparotomy revealed a jejunal perforation and an omental granuloma containing a fish bone. Accidentally ingested foreign bodies should always be suspected in cases of acute abdomen, and ultrasonography remains a firstline examination tool for preoperative diagnoses of unsuspected foreign bodies and their complications.

The value of diffusion-weighted MRI for prostate cancer detection and localization.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of prebiopsy T2-weighted imaging (T2WI), quantitative diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), and the combination of these magnetic resonance (MR) techniques (T2WI+DWI) in the detection and localization of peripheral zone prostate cancer. ⋯ Prebiopsy DWI is valuable in detecting, localizing, and grading prostate cancer within the peripheral zone, and the lowest ADC values can indicate the regions to be biopsied.

A radiological sign can sometimes resemble a particular object or pattern and is often highly suggestive of a group of similar pathologies. Awareness of such similarities can shorten the differential diagnosis list. ⋯ In this article, we present the most frequently encountered plain film and CT signs in chest imaging. These signs include for plain films the air bronchogram sign, silhouette sign, deep sulcus sign, Continuous diaphragm sign, air crescent ("meniscus") sign, Golden S sign, cervicothoracic sign, Luftsichel sign, scimitar sign, doughnut sign, Hampton hump sign, Westermark sign, and juxtaphrenic peak sign, and for CT the gloved finger sign, CT halo sign, signet ring sign, comet tail sign, CT angiogram sign, crazy paving pattern, tree-in-bud sign, feeding vessel sign, split pleura sign, and reversed halo sign.
