Does low intensity direct current affect open fracture wound healing?
Aim To explore the effects of a molecular pathway from the application of low-intensity direct current (LIDC) for wound healing through the pathway signalling growth factor and initiation of fibroblast activation. Methods This randomized clinical trial included 32 patients with open fracture wounds who came to Hasan Sadikin Hospital in Bandung, Indonesia. The patients were divided in the control and the treatment group. ⋯ Results This study showed a better wound area repair in the treatment group than the standard group, 3.17±0.11 and 0.78±0.07, respectively. The increase of FGF-2 level (42.69±3.5 and 15.09±1.8, respectively), FGF-7 level (42.99±3.55 and 14.67±1.9, respectively), and fibroblast group expression (7.62±0.79 and 3.54±0.6, respectively) were found to be higher in the treatment group (p <0.05). Conclusion Low-intensity direct current accelerates wound healing through the increase of growth factor and fibroblast activation.

Correlation of signal to noise ratio (SNR) value on distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) and expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) in cochlear organ of Corti in rat exposed to noise.
Aim To investigate the changes in the value of the signal to noise ratio (SNR) and to assess changes in the expression of nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (NRF2) in the organ of Corti of rat exposed to noise. Methods This study used a randomized post test only control group laboratory experimental design with 27 male Wistar strain Rattus norvegicus. The study group was divided into 3 groups (n = 9): group I (control), group 2 (2 hours of 100 dB noise exposure) and group 3 (2 hours of 110 dB noise exposure). ⋯ There was a significant difference in the mean levels of NRF2 expression in the cochlear organ of Rattus norvegicus in all groups (p<0.05). There was no correlation between the SNR and the NRF2 expression in group 2 (p>0.05), but there was a correlation between the SNR and the NRF2 expression in the group 3 (p<0.05). Conclusion There was found a correlation between the SNR value on distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) examination and NRF2 expression in the cochlear organ of Corti of Rattus norvegicus exposed to 110 dB noise.

Endovascular or open surgical treatment of high-risk patients with infrainguinal peripheral arterial disease and critical limb ischemia.
Aim To determine preferable type of treatment in our clinical circumstances by following two groups of patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI), who were treated endovascularly and surgically. Methods Research was carried out in the form of a prospective study of 80 patients with CLI and Trans-Atlantic Inter-Society Consensus (TASC) C or D type of arterial disease, with American Society of Anesthesiology (ASA) class III risk, who were randomly divided in two groups as per the treatment they received, surgical and endovascular. ⋯ Also, there was no difference in the overall survival of patients (100% vs. 97.5%; p=0.317). Conclusion Initial endovascular treatment is a preferred form of the treatment for selected patient population.

Combination of vitamin A and D supplementation for ischemic stroke: effects on interleukin-1ß and clinical outcome.
Aim Accumulated evidence suggests that vitamin A and D agonists can alleviate the development of atherosclerosis. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the effect of vitamin A and D combination supplement on interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and clinical outcome in ischemic stroke. Methods A single-blind, randomized controlled trial was conducted on ischemic stroke patients at Adam Malik Hospital between March 2018 to February 2019. ⋯ In conjunction, IL-1β serum level showed a significant decrement in the combination group (p<0.001). Lastly, the biggest improvement of NIHSS could be seen in the combination group, which was marked by the highest decrement of NIHSS score (p<0.001). Conclusion Administration of combination of vitamin A and D supplementation can significantly increase vitamin A and D serum level, decrease IL-1β serum level, and ultimately improve clinical outcome in ischemic stroke patients.

Comparison of intubation condition and the quality of muscle relaxation between rocuronium and vecuronium using "timing principle".
Aim To compare the quality of the conditions for endotracheal intubation and muscle relaxation between rocuronium bromide and vecuronium bromide using the ''timing principle'' method for induction in anaesthesia. The "timing principle" includes the administration of muscle relaxants before the hypnotic agent during induction in anaesthesia. Method Sixty patients who had undergone elective surgery were randomly allocated into two equal groups using muscle relaxants: rocuronium (group R) and vecuronium (group V). ⋯ The absence of TOF twitches (the level of muscle relaxation of 100%) at intubation recorded in 25 (83.3%) patients in the group R versus five (16.7%) patients in the group V (p<0.000). Duration of direct laryngoscopy did not significantly differ between the groups. Conclusion Rocuronium bromide provides better intubation conditions and greater quality of muscle relaxation than vecuronium bromide using ''timing principle'' technique.
