The effects of nitrous oxide on recovery from isoflurane anaesthesia in dogs.
To assess rate and quality of recovery from anaesthesia where isoflurane was delivered in oxygen or oxygen/nitrous oxide. ⋯ Addition of N(2)O to isoflurane anaesthesia results in a lower incidence of adverse behaviour (for example restlessness) and marginally faster recovery.

Does pethidine affect the cardiovascular and sedative effects of dexmedetomidine in dogs?
To investigate pethidine's effects on sedation and cardiovascular variables in dogs premedicated with dexmedetomidine. ⋯ Greater sedation is achieved using combinations of dexmedetomidine and pethidine compared with each drug alone. Pethidine does not attenuate the alpha-2 adrenergic-induced bradycardia.

Comparison of sevoflurane and isoflurane in dogs anaesthetised for clinical surgical or diagnostic procedures.
To assess attributes of sevoflurane for routine clinical anaesthesia in dogs by comparison with the established volatile anaesthetic isoflurane. ⋯ Sevoflurane appeared to be a suitable volatile anaesthetic for maintenance of routine clinical anaesthesia in dogs.

Effects of postoperative ketamine infusion on pain control and feeding behaviour in bitches undergoing mastectomy.
To determine if ketamine administered to bitches at the end of a mastectomy, followed by a six-hour constant rate infusion (CRI), improved postoperative opioid analgesia and feeding behaviour. ⋯ This study demonstrated that 700 microg/kg ketamine given intravenously postoperatively followed by a six-hour ketamine CRI of 10 microg/kg/minute improved patient feeding behaviour.
