Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare but serious complication of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. Features of MIS-C overlap with those of Kawasaki disease (KD). ⋯ A diagnostic prediction model utilizing admission information provides excellent discrimination between MIS-C and KD. This model may be useful for diagnosis of MIS-C but requires external validation.

Impact of a hospital service for adults with chronic childhood-onset disease: A propensity weighted analysis.
Young adults with chronic childhood-onset diseases (CCOD) transitioning care from pediatrics to adult care are at high risk for readmission after hospital discharge. At our institution, we have implemented an inpatient service, the Med-Peds (MP) line, to improve transitions to adult care and reduce hospital utilization by young adults with CCOD. ⋯ Hospitalization for young adults with CCOD on a MP service line was associated with lower 30-day readmission rates and longer LOS than hospitalization on other services. Further research is needed to assess which components of the line most contribute to decreased utilization.

Effective team communication during interdisciplinary rounds (IDRs) is a hallmark of safe, efficient, patient-centered care. However, there is limited understanding of optimal IDR structures and procedures. ⋯ Implementing IDR structures and procedures that promote attending physician involvement, physician initiative, and early nurse participation could optimize interdisciplinary communication and quality of care.

This Brief Report includes follow-up data about the sustainability and expansion of the Buprenorphine Team (B-Team), a hospital-based opioid treatment (HBOT) program. Between September 2018 and January 2023, the B-Team started 398 patients with opioid-use disorder (OUD) on buprenorphine therapy and coordinated outpatient care for 353 patients before discharge. ⋯ This model has been adopted at three additional Texas hospitals, resulting in rapid growth: 1037 patients were started on buprenorphine across these four sites during 2021-2022. Our longitudinal results support HBOT as an effective model for treating patients with OUD.
