As a gastrointestinal malignancy, colorectal cancer (CRC) is a main cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Mex-3 RNA-binding family member A (MEX3A) is upregulated in multiple types of tumors and plays a critical role in tumor proliferation and metastasis. However, the function of MEX3A in CRC angiogenesis has not been fully understood. ⋯ Cell assays showed high MEX3A expression in CRC cells and its promoting effects in CRC cell proliferation and glycolysis as well as angiogenesis. Rescue experiment confirmed that glycolysis inhibitor 2-DG could offset the promoting effects of MEX3A on the proliferation, angiogenesis and glycolysis of CRC cells. In conclusion, MEX3A could facilitate CRC angiogenesis by activating the glycolytic pathway, suggesting that MEX3A may be a novel therapeutic target for CRC.

Workplace bullying is quite prevalent and has been linked to many health complaints. The relationship between workplace bullying and fatigue was documented in previous studies. However, knowledge on how this relationship develops with the interplaying factors of spirituality and gender was not investigated before especially among schoolteachers. ⋯ Gender was found to be an effect modifier for this relationship, mainly among females (OR 2.66, p-value 0.047) but not among males. Anxiety and depression also predicted higher levels of fatigue (OR 5.75, p-value 0.017). Spirituality did not moderate this relationship.

Injuries are responsible for a high premature mortality and disability. They are poorly explored in low and middle income-countries. We aimed to estimate the burden of hospitalized injuries in the Monastir governorate (Tunisia) according to the nature of the injury, trends and projections of hospitalizations for injuries up until 2024, and to identify the distribution of this disease burden based on age and sex. ⋯ Injuries had a high prevalence and an important burden in a Tunisian university hospital. Prediction showed increased prevalence for 2024. Preventive measures and a trauma surveillance register should be implemented soon.

Vascular calcification (VC) is prevalent in uremia patients, lacking effective molecular biomarkers. This study was conducted to explore the role of serum cell division cycle 42 (CDC42) in the diagnosis of uremic VC incidence and progression. We enrolled 104 uremia patients and selected arcus aortae calcification (AAC) as the outcome phenotype. ⋯ Serum CDC42 was positively correlated with 1,25(OH) 2-D and FGF-23. Uremia patients with higher serum CDC42 had a higher probability of VC incidence and progression. Generally, serum CDC42 helped the diagnosis of uremic VC incidence and progression and was an independent risk factor for uremic VC progression.

As a dominant type of gastric cancer, stomach adenocarcinoma (STAD) is characterized by high morbidity and mortality rates. Anoikis factors participate in tumor metastasis and invasion. This study was designed to identify prognostic risk factors in anoikis-related long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) for STAD. ⋯ These DEGs were related to neurotransmitter transmission, signal transmission, and endocytosis. Moreover, we analyzed immune status of different risk groups and found that STAD patients in low-risk group were more sensitive to immunotherapy. A prognostic risk assessment model for STAD using anoikis-related lncRNA genes was constructed here, which was proven to have high predictive accuracy and thus could offer a reference for prognostic evaluation and clinical treatment of STAD patients.
