To present the efficacy of autologous neurosensory retinal transplantation in macular holes surgery with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Eleven eyes of 11 patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment associated to a large macular hole were enrolled between January 2019 and January 2021 in the Department A of the Hedi Rais Institute of Ophthalmology (Tunis, Tunisia). All patients underwent a 23 G pars plana vitrectomy. ⋯ No adverse events were registered during the study. Autologous neurosensory retinal transplantation has been efficient to treat macular hole associated to rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Further multicentric studies with a large number of patients are needed to establish the results of this technique in complex cases.

Background: The termination of pregnancy in patients with placenta accreta spectrum disorder (PASD) during the second trimester remains uncertain. In addition, interventional radiology techniques, such as arterial embolization and balloon placement, are potential options. We evaluated the outcomes of pregnancy termination in patients with PASD during the second trimester and the effectiveness of preoperative interventional radiology techniques. ⋯ Conversely, in the cesarean section group, no significant differences were observed in gestational weeks (23.59 ± 3.14 vs 23.20 ± 4.37, P = 0.79) and blood loss (811.11 ± 879.55 ml vs 989.47 ± 986.52 ml, P = 0.76) between the subgroups. Conclusions: Further studies are needed to evaluate the efficacy of vaginal termination in PASD patients during the second trimester. Regarding cesarean termination, arterial embolization did not demonstrate increased effectiveness.

Disc degeneration (DD) is a common cause of low back pain, which represents one of the most widespread public health problems in the world. Therefore, the establishment of a reproducible animal model is indispensable to understand the pathogenic mechanisms of DD and to test new therapeutic strategies. From this perspective, the fundamental objective of this study was to elucidate the effect of ovariectomy in establishing a new animal model of DD in rats. ⋯ The combination of puncture and ovariectomy induced rapid and progressive DD in the lumbar discs of rats without spontaneous recovery.

Several studies have reported increased glucose transporters (GLUT) expression in different cancer types, including breast cancer. The primary purpose of this study is to examine GLUT1 immunoexpression in breast cancer patients in Saudi Arabia and to determine its significance. The study examined the association between GLUT1 immunophenotype and the clinicopathological characteristics in breast cancer. ⋯ Positive estrogen and progesterone receptor results predicted lower GLUT1 immunoexpression (p < 0.0001 for both). Vascular invasion showed a significant association with GLUT1 immunoexpression (p = 0.045). Our findings support that GLUT1 immunohistochemistry can be used as a marker to determine the grade and hormonal receptor status in breast cancer.

While severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) causes significant morbidity and mortality in humans, there is a wide range of disease outcomes following virus exposures. Some individuals are asymptomatic while others develop complications within a few days after infection that can lead to fatalities in a smaller portion of the population. In the present study, we have analyzed the factors that may influence the outcome of post-SARS-CoV-2 infection. ⋯ This is due to cross-reactive antibodies and T-cells that recognize SARS-CoV-2 antigens. We also have reviewed the current literature that has also proposed that human infections with eCOVIDs impart protection against disease caused by subsequent exposure to SARS-CoV-2. We propose that a nasal spray vaccine consisting of selected genes of eCOVIDs would be beneficial against SARS-CoV-2 and other pathogenic coronaviruses.
