Serum Krebs von den Lungen-6 level as a diagnostic biomarker for interstitial lung disease in Chinese patients.
The purpose of this study was to determine the diagnostic and prognostic values of serum KL-6 levels in Chinese patients with interstitial lung disease (ILDs). ⋯ Serum KL-6 levels might be a promising diagnostic biomarker for ILDs in Chinese patients. The prognostic value of serum KL-6 levels for ILDs remains to be verified by large-scaled studies.

Endoscopic treatment of native lung hyperinflation using endobronchial valves in single-lung transplant patients: a multinational experience.
Hyperinflation of the native lung (NLH) is a known complication to single-lung transplantation for emphysema. The hyperinflation can lead to compression of the graft and cause respiratory failure. Endobronchial valves have been used to block airflow in specific parts of the native lung, reducing the native lung volume and relieving the graft. ⋯ Treating NLH with IBV endobronchial valves leads to clinical improvement in the majority of patients, and the treatment has an acceptable safety.

Influenza pneumonia among adolescents and adults: a concurrent comparison between influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 and A (H3N2) in the post-pandemic period.
Comparisons of the characteristics between the influenza A (H1N1) pdm09 and common seasonal influenza are important for both clinical management and epidemiological studies. However, the differences between pandemic and seasonal influenza during the post-pandemic period are poorly understood. ⋯ During the first post-pandemic flu season, patients with the A (H1N1) pdm09 pneumonia showed similar clinical characteristics but slightly higher disease severity and stronger systemic inflammatory response than A (H3N2) pneumonia.

Spirometric reference values for healthy nonsmoking Saudi adults.
To derive prediction equations of spirometric values of healthy Saudi adults and to compare the derived equations with equations reported in selected population. ⋯ The reference spirometric values derived in our study were significantly lower than the predicted values derived by the American equations.

Efficacy and safety of the long-acting muscarinic antagonist GSK233705 delivered once daily in patients with COPD.
GSK233705 is a recently developed inhaled anticholinergic being investigated for the potential treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). ⋯ All doses of GSK233705 demonstrated bronchodilatory activity and were well tolerated. Although the onset of bronchodilation was rapid, it was not sustained over 24 h making it unsuitable for once-daily dosing.
