Comparative StudyIntracranial haemorrhage in infective endocarditis.
Although intracranial cerebral haemorrhage (ICH) complicating infective endocarditis (IE) is a critical clinical issue, its characteristics, impact, and prognosis remain poorly known. ⋯ ICH is a common complication of left-sided IE. The impact on prognosis is dependent on mechanism (haemorrhage of undetermined aetiology). We observed a higher mortality rate in patients who had conservative treatment when cardiac surgery was indicated compared with in those who underwent cardiac surgery.

Review Practice GuidelineMechanical circulatory support in patients with cardiogenic shock in intensive care units: A position paper of the "Unité de Soins Intensifs de Cardiologie" group of the French Society of Cardiology, endorsed by the "Groupe Athérome et Cardiologie Interventionnelle" of the French Society of Cardiology.
Cardiogenic shock (CS) is a major challenge in contemporary cardiology. Despite a better understanding of the pathophysiology of CS, its management has only improved slightly. The prevalence of CS has remained stable over the past decade, but its outcome has seen few improvements, with the 1-month mortality rate still in the range of 40-60%. ⋯ Several efficient MCS devices are now available, including left ventricle-to-aorta circulatory support devices and full pulmonary and circulatory support with venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. However, evidence to support their indications, the timing of implantation and the selection of patients and devices is scarce. Because these devices are gaining momentum and are becoming readily available, the "Unité de Soins Intensifs de Cardiologie" group of the French Society of Cardiology aims to propose practical algorithms for the use of these devices, to help intensive care unit and cardiac care unit physicians in this complex area, where evidence is limited.

Observational StudyIs tricuspid annuloplasty increasing surgical mortality and morbidity during mitral valve replacement? A single-centre experience.
Performance of tricuspid annuloplasty (TA) in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery is recommended based on the degree of tricuspid regurgitation and tricuspid annulus size, but is often underused. ⋯ In a consecutive series of patients who underwent MVR, TA did not seem to have a negative impact on immediate outcome. Hence, additional performance of TA at the time of MVR should not be declined on the basis of an increased surgical risk.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyApixaban in the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation in France: Rationale and design of the PAROS cross-sectional study.
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common arrhythmia worldwide, and its prevalence is expected to increase with population ageing. The use of vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for the prevention of stroke and/or systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) was recently challenged by non-VKA oral anticoagulants (NOACs), demonstrating a favourable risk-benefit profile, with reductions in stroke, intracranial haemorrhage and mortality, similar major bleeding, but increased gastrointestinal bleeding. Nevertheless, data on their use in a "real-life" setting are scarce for France. ⋯ The PAROS study will provide real-life data on the characteristics of NVAF patients and their anticoagulant prescription in France.

Electrical storm in the early phase of HeartMate® II device implantation: Incidence, risk factors and prognosis.
Ventricular arrhythmia is common after left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation, especially in the early postoperative phase (<30 days). ⋯ ES is a common and pejorative feature in the early postoperative period.
