Randomized Controlled TrialEarly Diastolic Strain Rate in Relation to Systolic and Diastolic Function and Prognosis in Aortic Stenosis.
This study examined the impact of early mitral inflow velocity-to-early diastolic strain rate (E/SRe) ratio on long-term outcome after aortic valve replacement (AVR) in aortic stenosis (AS). ⋯ Pre-operative E/SRe ratio was significantly associated with long-term post-operative survival and was superior to the E/e' ratio in patients with severe AS undergoing AVR. (Effect of Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers (ARB) on Left Ventricular Reverse Remodelling After Aortic Valve Replacement in Severe Valvular Aortic Stenosis; NCT00294775).

Comparative StudyAccuracy of Echocardiography to Evaluate Pulmonary Vascular and RV Function During Exercise.
The authors have compared exercise echocardiography and exercise cardiac magnetic resonance imaging with simultaneous invasive pressure registration (ExCMRip) for the assessment of pulmonary vascular and right ventricular (RV) function. ⋯ Echocardiographic estimates of RV and pulmonary vascular function are feasible during exercise and identify pathology with reasonable accuracy. They represent valid screening tools for the identification of pulmonary vascular disease in routine clinical practice.

3D Assessment of Features Associated With Transvalvular Aortic Regurgitation After TAVR: A Real-Time 3D TEE Study.
This study of 3-dimensional (3D) transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) aimed to demonstrate features associated with transvalvular aortic regurgitation (AR) after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and to confirm the fact that a gap between the native aortic annulus and prosthesis is associated with paravalvular AR. ⋯ 3D TEE successfully demonstrated the features associated with transvalvular AR, such as large prosthetic expansion, elliptical prosthetic shape, and anti-anatomical position of prosthesis. Additionally, effective area oversizing was associated with paravalvular AR.

Determinants of New-Onset Atrial Fibrillation in Patients Receiving CRT: Mechanistic Insights From Speckle Tracking Imaging.
The aim of this study was to investigate the factors associated with the development of atrial fibrillation (AF) and to examine the impact of these factors for long-term outcome after cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). ⋯ LA functional improvement is essential for AF-free survival after CRT and is an independent predictor of AF-free survival. The improvement in LA Ss and Sa as a means of LA mechanical reserve also predicts long-term event-free survival after CRT independently from LV volume response and new-onset AF.
