Multicenter Study Observational StudyImpact of Intensive LDL Cholesterol Lowering on Coronary Artery Atherosclerosis Progression: A Serial CT Angiography Study.
The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between temporal changes in coronary plaque volume and the intensity of lipid-lowering treatments, utilizing coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA). ⋯ Strict LDL-C control appeared to significantly attenuate plaque volume progression based on noninvasive quantitative assessment by coronary CTA.

Noncontrast Magnetic Resonance for the Diagnosis of Cardiac Amyloidosis.
This study aimed to assess the diagnostic use of native T1 to detect cardiac amyloidosis (CA) in a large prospective cohort of patients referred for suspected systemic amyloidosis. ⋯ Native myocardial T1 enables diagnosis of CA to be made without need for gadolinium contrast in a large proportion of patients with suspected systemic amyloidosis. We propose a diagnostic algorithm for non-contrast CMR applicable to patients with suspected amyloidosis.

Randomized Controlled TrialEarly Diastolic Strain Rate in Relation to Systolic and Diastolic Function and Prognosis in Aortic Stenosis.
This study examined the impact of early mitral inflow velocity-to-early diastolic strain rate (E/SRe) ratio on long-term outcome after aortic valve replacement (AVR) in aortic stenosis (AS). ⋯ Pre-operative E/SRe ratio was significantly associated with long-term post-operative survival and was superior to the E/e' ratio in patients with severe AS undergoing AVR. Multicenter Study Comparative StudyThe Coronary Artery Disease-Reporting and Data System (CAD-RADS): Prognostic and Clinical Implications Associated With Standardized Coronary Computed Tomography Angiography Reporting.
This study sought to assess clinical outcomes associated with the novel Coronary Artery Disease-Reporting and Data System (CAD-RADS) scores used to standardize coronary computed tomography angiography (CTA) reporting and their potential utility in guiding post-coronary CTA care. ⋯ CAD-RADS effectively identified patients at risk for adverse events. Frequent ICA use was observed among patients without severe CAD, many of whom were asymptomatic or not taking antianginal drugs. Incorporating CAD-RADS into coronary CTA reports may provide a novel opportunity to promote evidence-based care post-coronary CTA.

Three-dimensional (3D) printing is at the crossroads of printer and materials engineering, noninvasive diagnostic imaging, computer-aided design, and structural heart intervention. Cardiovascular applications of this technology development include the use of patient-specific 3D models for medical teaching, exploration of valve and vessel function, surgical and catheter-based procedural planning, and early work in designing and refining the latest innovations in percutaneous structural devices. ⋯ We discuss the basic principles of clinical image segmentation, including coregistration of multiple imaging datasets to create an anatomic model of interest. With applications in congenital heart disease, coronary artery disease, and surgical and catheter-based structural disease, 3D printing is a new tool that is challenging how we image, plan, and carry out cardiovascular interventions.
