Multicenter Study Comparative Study Observational StudyNon-fibroatheroma lesion phenotype and long-term clinical outcomes: a substudy analysis from the PROSPECT study.
The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical impact of non-fibroatheroma lesion phenotype in patients presenting with an acute coronary syndrome (ACS). ⋯ An Imaging Study in Patients With Unstable Atherosclerotic Lesions; NCT00180466).

Multicenter StudyStrain echocardiography improves risk prediction of ventricular arrhythmias after myocardial infarction.
The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that strain echocardiography might improve arrhythmic risk stratification in patients after myocardial infarction (MI). ⋯ Mechanical dispersion by strain echocardiography predicted arrhythmic events independently of LVEF in this prospective, multicenter study of patients after MI. A combination of mechanical dispersion and global strain may improve the selection of patients after MI for implantable cardioverter-defibrillator therapy, particularly in patients with LVEFs >35% who did not fulfill current implantable cardioverter-defibrillator indications.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyDyssynchrony and the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.
The aim of our study was to evaluate the relationship between left ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony and the risk of ventricular tachycardia (VT) or ventricular fibrillation (VF) in patients enrolled in the MADIT-CRT (Multicenter Automatic Defibrillator Implantation Trial-Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy) trial. ⋯ Baseline LV dyssynchrony did not predict VT/VF/death or VT/VF in mild heart failure patients with or without LBBB. CRT-induced improvement of LV dyssynchrony was associated with significant reduction of ventricular arrhythmias in patients with LBBB.

Multicenter Study Comparative StudyPopulation-based reference values for 3D echocardiographic LV volumes and ejection fraction.
The purpose of this study was to define age-, sex-, and ethnicity-specific reference values for 3-dimensional echocardiographic (3DE) left ventricular (LV) volumes and LV ejection fraction (LVEF) in a large cohort of European white and Indian Asian subjects. ⋯ These reference values are based on the largest 3DE study performed to date that should facilitate the standardization of the technique and encourage its adoption for the routine assessment of LV volumes and LVEF in the clinical echocardiography laboratory. This study supports the application of ethnicity-specific reference values for indexed LV volumes.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffects of p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibition on vascular and systemic inflammation in patients with atherosclerosis.
This study sought to determine the effects of a p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase inhibitor, losmapimod, on vascular inflammation, by (18)F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography/computed tomography imaging. ⋯ Despite nonsignificant changes for the primary endpoint of average vessel TBR, HD losmapimod reduced vascular inflammation in the most inflamed regions, concurrent with a reduction in inflammatory biomarkers and FDG uptake in visceral fat. These results suggest a systemic anti-inflammatory effect. (A Study to Evaluate the Effects of 3 Months Dosing With GW856553, as Assessed FDG-PET/CT Imaging; NCT00633022).
