Multicenter Study Observational StudyFDG Uptake by Prosthetic Arterial Grafts in Large Vessel Vasculitis Is Not Specific for Active Disease.
This study investigated the incidence and clinical significance of arterial graft-associated uptake of fluorodeoxyglucose in large-vessel vasculitis (LVV). ⋯ Significant [18F]FDG uptake that is confined to arterial graft sites in patients with LVV does not reflect clinically relevant disease activity or progression. To minimize exposure to immunosuppression and in the face of negative blood culture, clinically quiescent arteritis, normal or stably raised C-reactive protein levels, we elected not to escalate treatment and monitor progression with MRA.

Multicenter StudyLV Mass as a Predictor of CVD Events in Older Adults With and Without Metabolic Syndrome and Diabetes.
The purpose of this study was to examine the prognostic significance of left ventricular (LV) mass for cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in older adults with and without metabolic syndrome (MetS) and diabetes mellitus (DM). ⋯ LV mass is associated with increased CVD risk and provides modest added prediction and clinical utility compared to standard risk factors in older persons with and without MetS but not with DM.

Observational StudyNeurocardiac Injury Assessed by Strain Imaging Is Associated With In-Hospital Mortality in Patients With Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.
This study sought to test the hypothesis that speckle tracking strain echocardiography can quantify neurocardiac injuries in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), which is associated with worse clinical outcome. ⋯ Neurocardiac injury can be detected by LV GLS and RV strain in patients with acute SAH. LV GLS was significantly associated with in-hospital mortality. RV strain, when available, added prognostic value to LV GLS. Abnormal myocardial strain is a marker for increased risk of in-hospital mortality in SAH and has clinical prognostic utility.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialSafety and Efficacy of Self-Expanding TAVR in Patients With Aortoventricular Angulation.
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between aortoventricular (AoV) angulation on clinical outcomes after self-expanding transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in patients with severe aortic stenosis who were deemed suboptimal for surgery. ⋯ The degree of AoV angulation does not affect early clinical outcomes self-expanding transcatheter aortic valve replacement. Plaque Neovascularization Is Increased in Human Carotid Atherosclerosis Related to Prior Neck Radiotherapy: A Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Study.
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of radiotherapy (RT) on intraplaque neovascularization (IPN) in human carotid arteries. ⋯ This is the first study in humans to reveal a significant association between RT and the presence and extent of IPN. This may provide insights into the mechanisms underlying the increased stroke risk among survivors of head and neck cancer treated by RT.
