Case Reports[Filling of optico-ciliary shunt vessels in papilledema: an indicator of pressure in the optic nerve sheath].
Optico-ciliary shunt vessels can occur in papilledema. It appears possible that the diameter of these vessels correlates with the pressure in the optic nerve sheath. ⋯ The diameter of optico-ciliary shunt vessels may be an indicator of the pressure within the optic nerve sheath.

The most common eye injuries are non-perforating. Eye injuries in the workplace are a major cause of socioeconomical damage, morbidity and disability, despite well publicised standards for industrial eye protection. This study investigates the epidemiological and clinical aspects of 148 occupational cases. ⋯ Despite the late examination at the Eye Clinic the functional loss was mostly little except after chemical burns. Nevertheless, most occupational accidents can be avoided with better protective devices in order to reduce the incidence of injuries and socioeconomical damage. Therefore an intense campaign about protective devices at the place of employment should be required. We conclude that education about safety glasses in the workplace by tradespeople and trades assistants during tasks for which goggles are recommended could considerably reduce the rate of occupational eye traumata. The data of the University Eye Clinic of Tübingen are useful to identify strategies to prevent eye injuries such as wider and better use of safety glasses and improvement in engineering controls.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[0.15 mg clonidine as oral premedication in retrobulbar anesthesia].
In the present clinical study, oral premedication of 0.15 mg clonidine has been explored with view to anxiolytic effects and physiological stress parameters. ⋯ In our opinion, oral clonidine (0.15 mg) is useful for premedication of surgery under RBA.

[Establishing a clinical information system for surgical ophthalmology and orthopedics specialties with reference to GSG '93].
As a result of new health care guidelines (Gesundheitsstrukturgesetz) and the federal hospital and nursing ordinance, there has been a large increase in the documentation required for diagnoses (ICD-9) and service ("Operationenschlüssel nach section 301 SGB V" = ICPM), all of which is done in the form of a numeric code. The method of coding diagnoses is supposed to make possible data entry and statistical evaluation of plausibility controls, as well as conspicuous and random testing of economic feasibility. Our data processing system is designed to assist in the planning and organization of clinical activities, while at the same time making documentation in accordance with health care guidelines easier and providing scientific documentation and evaluation. ⋯ The use of this thesaurus-supported and graphics-oriented system required no special knowledge of the ICD code and makes documentation much easier to produce. The advantages of computer-supported encoding not only include a savings in time, but also an improvement in the quality of the encoding from which clinical and scientific reports can be derived. The relational client-server, operating in a graphics-supported programming environment, makes it possible for the clinic's doctors to further develop and improve the system. Through the installation and support of a Macintosh network, and training of doctors, medical personnel and clerical staff, cost as well as investment of time have been kept to a minimum in comparison to other LAN servers.

Case Reports[2-dimensional mapping and retinal and papillary microcirculation using scanning laser Doppler flowmetry].
To present clinical applications of a new non-invasive method imaging in a high-definition the topography of perfused retinal vessels. ⋯ "Scanning Laser Doppler Flowmetry" facilitates the visualisation of perfused retinal capillaries and vessels in high resolution. The representation of the function of the retinal circulation by SLDF leads to an image similar to the anatomical situation. The 2-dimensional mapping of local blood flow leads to a physiological picture of the retinal perfusion with visible vessels and capillaries.
