Randomized Controlled TrialCharacterization of fractionated atrial electrograms critical for maintenance of atrial fibrillation: a randomized, controlled trial of ablation strategies (the CFAE AF trial).
Whether ablation of complex fractionated atrial electrograms (CFAE) modifies atrial fibrillation (AF) by eliminating drivers or atrial debulking remains unknown. This randomized study aimed to determine the effect of ablating different CFAE morphologies compared with normal electrograms (ie, debulking normal tissue) on the cycle length of persistent AF (AFCL). ⋯ URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyA randomized, placebo-controlled study of vernakalant (oral) for the prevention of atrial fibrillation recurrence after cardioversion.
Vernakalant, a relatively atrial-selective antiarrhythmic drug, has previously demonstrated efficacy for the acute conversion of atrial fibrillation (AF) to sinus rhythm. This study was designed to determine the most appropriate oral dose of vernakalant for the prevention of AF recurrence postcardioversion. ⋯ URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00526136.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyA prospective comparison of cardiac imaging using intracardiac echocardiography with transesophageal echocardiography in patients with atrial fibrillation: the intracardiac echocardiography guided cardioversion helps interventional procedures study.
The Intracardiac Echocardiography Guided Cardioversion Helps Interventional Procedures study evaluated the concordance of intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) with transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). ⋯ This study provides validation for the use of ICE for LA and IAS imaging. ICE imaging was less sensitive compared to TEE for LAA thrombus identification. Clinical Trial Registration- URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00281073.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative StudyCircumferential pulmonary vein ablation with additional linear ablation results in an increased incidence of left atrial flutter compared with segmental pulmonary vein isolation as an initial approach to ablation of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
There has been growing concern that linear ablation is associated with an increased risk of iatrogenic arrhythmias in patients undergoing ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF). Therefore, we compared circumferential pulmonary vein ablation plus left atrial linear ablation (CPVA+LALA) with segmental pulmonary vein isolation (PVI)in patients with paroxysmal AF. ⋯ As an initial ablation approach in patients with paroxysmal AF, more LAFL occurred after CPVA+LALA and fluoroscopy times were longer compared with segmental PVI.

Randomized Controlled TrialOmega-3 fatty acid supplementation does not reduce risk of atrial fibrillation after coronary artery bypass surgery: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.
Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) have been reported to reduce the risk of sudden cardiac death presumed to be due to fatal ventricular arrhythmias, but their effect on atrial arrhythmias is unclear. ⋯ Omega-3 PUFA do not reduce the risk of AF after coronary artery bypass graft surgery.
