Traumatic lumbosacropelvic fracture-dislocation is a rare but potentially serious injury. Conventional methods like lumbosacral fixation used to treat such injuries often result in suboptimal outcome secondary to complications like pseudoarthroses, sagittal imbalance and hardware failure. In this study, we retrospectively analysed the clinical features and management for this trauma using lumbo-iliac fixation. ⋯ Our experience with these cases suggests that early surgical decompression and posterior lumbo-iliac internal fixation can effectively restore spinal alignment, stabilise the spine, and improve neurological symptoms for this complex trauma.

Compound pelvic fractures are deemed to be one of the most severe orthopaedic injuries with an extremely high morbidity and mortality. After the initial resuscitation phase the prevention of pelvic sepsis is one of the main treatment goals for patients with an open pelvic fracture. ⋯ We present our flowchart for the treatment of trauma patients with compound pelvic fractures illustrated by a case report describing a 32 year old patient who sustained an open pelvic ring injury in a workplace accident. The aim of this paper is to underline the importance of a safe, straightforward approach to compound pelvic fractures.

Traumatic thoracolumbar spine fractures are frequently classified as burst fractures Magerl type A3. There still are many controversies regarding the treatment of this fracture. The therapeutic spectrum ranges from conservative to invasive operative methods with attendant morbidities. The minimal-invasive technique of kyphoplasty has established itself as a common treatment of osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures and is associated with a low complication rate. The aim of this study is to evaluate the functional and radiological results after kyphoplasty of traumatic thoracolumbar burst fractures. ⋯ The present study showed that kyphoplasty is a safe and feasible method for the treatment of burst fractures. It allowed the correction of the kyphosis, stabilisation of the facture, pain reduction and early mobilisation.

To study the clinical efficacy of modified percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) in the treatment of painful old osteoporosis vertebral compression fractures (OVCF). ⋯ The modified PVP can increase the space for bone cement filling and is good for the restoration of vertebral body height. It is an optimal procedure for the treatment of painful old OVCF.
