Comparative Study
Subcutaneous Achilles tendon rupture: A comparison between open technique and mini-invasive tenorrhaphy with Achillon(®) suture system.
Surgical management of Achilles tendon rupture is still controversial: open techniques have a higher rate of soft tissue complications but a lower incidence of re-rupture than percutaneous tenorrhaphies. The aim of our retrospective study was to analyze and compare clinical and functional results in patients treated with either the conventional open or minimally invasive suture treatment with the Achillon® system. ⋯ Achillon® mini-invasive suture system is a reliable tool for the Achilles tendon ruptures, able to reduce the incidence of soft tissues complications if compared to the classic open tenorrhaphy, while maintaining strength of the suture and leading to superimposed functional outcomes.

Osteoarticular allograft reconstruction of post-traumatic defect of distal femur in a pediatric patient: A case report and literature review.
Successful results of osteoarticular allografts in reconstruction of periarticular bone defect after tumor resection encouraged its utilization in post-traumatic defects. Here we describe a case of post-traumatic skeletal defect in a 4 year-old girl treated with osteoarticular allograft reconstruction. ⋯ Reconstruction immediately after healing of soft tissues prevented development of any varus or valgus deformity of the knee. Our case demonstrates utility of osteoarticular allograft in a pediatric post-traumatic skeletal defect.

Humeral head sacrificing procedures are more favored in elderly patients with complex proximal humerus fractures because of high incidence of failures and complications with osteosynthesis. The purpose of this study is to assess the outcome of second generation locked plating techniques in 3 and 4 part fractures in active elderly patients >70years with an emphasis on function and complications. ⋯ Osteosynthesis with second generation locked plating techniques provide satisfactory outcome in very elderly patients with complex proximal humerus fractures with minimal complications.

In Malaysia, motorcyclists continue to outnumber other road users in injuries and deaths. The objective of this study was to determine the association between helmet fixation and helmet type with head injury and severity of head injury among Malaysian motorcyclists. ⋯ Helmet fixation is more effective than helmet type in providing protection to the motorcyclists.
