Observational Study
Risk factors of avascular necrosis of the femoral head and fixation failure in patients with valgus angulated femoral neck fractures over the age of 50 years.
The aim of our study was to identify the risk factors for avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVN) and fixation failure (FF) after screw osteosynthesis in patients with valgus angulated femoral neck fractures. ⋯ The severity of initial deformity predicts AVN and FF in patients with valgus angulated femoral neck fractures. Patients with an initial valgus and posterior tilt>15° are reasonable candidates for primary arthroplasty due to high risk of FIT.

Upper limb non-unions treated with BMP-7: efficacy and clinical results.
The management of upper limb non-unions can be challenging and often with unpredictable outcomes. In this study we present our experience with the use of BMP-7 in the treatment of upper limb non-unions. Between 2004 and 2011 all consecutive patients who were treated with BMP-7 were followed up prospectively until fracture union. ⋯ DASH scores were available at final follow up in 23 (55%) patients with a mean of 33 score (range 2-86.4). This study supports the view that the combination of ABG and BMP-7 can be considered as a successful treatment modality for the treatment of recalcitrant upper limb non-unions. Further studies preferably randomised controlled trials are desirable to throw more light into the role of BMP-7 in the treatment of upper limb nonunions.

The objective of this study was to identify indications and predictors for subsequent surgeries in the same hip and to evaluate life expectancy following screw fixation of undisplaced femoral neck fractures (FNF). The study further aimed to determine the necessary follow-up time for future studies aiming to evaluate the treatment of such fractures. ⋯ Screw fixation of undisplaced femoral neck fractures appears to be a safe procedure in particular in the absence of a posterior tilt of the femoral head. Conversion to arthroplasty was estimated to occur in one out of four of long time survivors. Men have a particularly poor medical prognosis and should receive careful medical attention. In order to capture 80% of reoperations, clinical studies and register studies must have a follow-up time of at least two years.

Algorithmic approach to the prevention of unnecessary fasciotomy in extremity snake bite.
In the literature, there is a lack of a consensus about the occurrence of the compartment syndrome due to the snake bites. There are different concepts for the surgical treatment of the threshold value of the chamber pressure. There are many different classifications and assessment criteria for the snakebites. ⋯ III-IV.

To evaluate the ability of orthopaedic trauma subspecialists to predict early bony union in femoral and tibia shaft fractures. ⋯ At 12-weeks post-operatively orthopaedic trauma subspecialists can confidently predict the union state in this patient population. This data is most useful in the nonunion patient, directing early intervention, thereby decreasing patient disability and discomfort.
