We present a modified tension band technique combined with cable cerclage using Cable Grip System for the treatment of displaced inferior patellar pole fractures and report the knee functional outcome. ⋯ The modified tension band technique combined with cable cerclage using Cable Grip System for displaced inferior patellar pole fractures can provide stable fixation with excellent results in knee function, allows for immediate mobilization and early weight-bearing, which is a simple and valuable technique in routine clinical practice.

The feasibility of harvesting a vascularized iliac crest utilizing the Pararectus approach was assessed in cadavers and then this new technique was implemented in a clinical case. ⋯ The Pararectus approach allowed for secure collection of large vascularized iliac grafts. The presented technique was successful as a salvage procedure in a clinical case with substantial bone loss after an open calcaneal fracture.

Criteria for classification, indication and choice of a surgical device to treat proximal humeral fractures are still controversial. We report an original technique based on a mechanical concept with a structural principle of a triangle as a rigid body applied to the humeral head fractures in association with other devices. This retrospective study aims to describe in detail the surgical technique and results at long time follow up. ⋯ A medial solid body, especially in titanium material and shaped as trapezoidal/pyramidal form used to fill the secondary bone loss in complex instable proximal humeral fracture, allows an anatomic reduction and stable fixation in association with simple and more complex tools and it provides a better biomechanical environment for union and maintenance of alignment.

According to Fraser's description, ipsilateral femoral and tibial diaphyseal fractures are characterised as type I floating knee and have a better prognosis than fractures with joint involvement (type II). There are few reports of functional and muscle strength in these patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the functional and isokinetic muscle strength of patients with type I floating knee undergoing femoral and tibial internal fixation. ⋯ Patients with type I floating knee had unsatisfactory functional results, significant knee extensor and flexor muscle strength deficits and a significant rate of complications at the two-year follow-up.

Information about injuries and its differences in Cliff Diving (CD) and Splash Diving (SD) are unknown. It was the aim to analyse (1) injury rates, patterns and causes; (2) differences (in injuries) between both disciplines; and to (3) identify targets for future injury prevention interventions. ⋯ Most of the injuries are related to the water entry. The entry position plays a key role in injury patterns with pursuant differences comparing CD with SD. Although most of the injuries involved soft-tissue only, severe injuries have been reported. Targets for future injury prevention strategies include protection for the increased impaction at entry; adaption of the diving conditions in practice to those in competition; dryland training courses; and instruction of non-professional divers to teach appropriate diving techniques.
