The hoverboard, a self-balancing powered scooter, was introduced to the market in 2015 and quickly became one of the most popular purchases of the year. As with similar products, this scooter brought a host of concerns surrounding injuries. The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence of injuries that coincided with the popularity of hoverboard. ⋯ Given the number of injuries caused by these products, safety equipment, such as wrist guards and helmets, should be worn in an attempt to reduce the number of injuries. Additionally, this study highlights the importance of physicians keeping up to date with current trends to best advise their patients on safe practices.

Intramedullary nail fixation is a common treatment for tibial-shaft fractures, and it offers a better functional prognosis than other conservative treatments. Currently, the primary approach employed during intramedullary nail insertion is the semiextended position is the suprapatellar approach, which involves a vertical incision of the quadriceps tendon Damage to the patellofemoral joint cartilage has been highlighted as a drawback associated with this approach. To avoid this issue, we perform surgery using the patellar eversion technique and a soft sleeve. ⋯ We arthroscopically assessed the effect of this technique on patellofemoral joint cartilage. The patellar eversion technique allows a direct view and protection of the patellofemoral joint without affecting the patella. Thus, damage to the patellofemoral joint cartilage can be avoided.

The treatment of fractures of the posterior pilon is a timely issue. Restoration of the integrity of the incisura fibularis and subsequent anatomic reduction of the fibula are essential for reconstruction of the ankle mortise after trauma, and syndesmotic stability. Inappropriate treatment ultimately will lead to a poor functional outcome and quality of life. ⋯ The posteromedial approach, although elegant, straightforward, and offering an excellent exposure of the fracture site, is used less frequently than the posterolateral approach. In this technical note we describe the posteromedial approach for the treatment of posterior pilon fractures in a step-by-step fashion. We will discuss the indications, its benefits and limitations.
