Type B fibula fractures are the most common type of ankle fractures. Generally, surgical repair is advised for unstable fractures and non-operative treatment for stable fractures. However, evidence on long-term functional outcome of both treatment regimens is lacking. Aim of this study is to compare the long-term outcome in function and pain between patients with an isolated type B fibula fracture treated non-operatively and surgically. ⋯ According to results of this study, in adult patients with an isolated distal fibula and medial clear space ≤6 mm, without proven instability these fractures can safely be treated non-operatively, while avoiding risks and costs of surgery and preserving good long-term outcome in terms of pain and function.

Calcaneal insufficiency fracture (IF) following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is a rare disorder. This study aimed to examine the prevalence and clinical findings of calcaneal IF following TKA. ⋯ Calcaneal IF should be suspected in patients presenting with ipsilateral foot pain following TKA, particularly in female patients with a relatively high BMI and osteoporosis. Calcaneal IF can be classified into three types based on the fracture location. These variations in calcaneal IF may be due to differences in conditions and changes in mechanical loading of the lower extremity and bone quality following TKA.

To investigate demographics and outcomes of Vancouver type C periprosthetic femoral fractures (PPFF) treated with open reduction and internal fixation. ⋯ The lowest reoperation rate was observed using locking plates in Vancouver type C fractures when compared with conventional plates or intramedullary nailing. The presence of an ipsilateral knee prosthesis did not influence the outcome of the surgical treatment.

Hand loss is a catastrophic event that generates significant demands for orthopedics and prosthetics. In the course of history, prostheses evolved from passive esthetic replacements to sophisticated robotic hands. Yet, their actuation and particularly, their capacity to provide patients with sensations, remain an unsolved problem. ⋯ Finally, a pivotal part in the development of this technology is the surgical technique which will be described in this paper. The surgeons' insights into this procedure are given. These kinds of prostheses compared with the classic one, hold a promise of dramatic health and quality of life increase, together with the decrease the rejection rate.

Giant keystone type III perforator flaps for dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans defect reconstruction.
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) is a relatively rare malignant tumor, with important local aggressiveness. ⋯ Our paper presents a reliable alternative to skin grafting for a very large defect on the posterior trunk, the modified type III keystone flap, to our knowledge, for the first time presented for such a wide defect and on adult.
