Anterior external fixation is a well-established technique for treating pelvic ring injuries, but many complications are associated with it. The subcutaneous anterior internal fixator (INFIX) technique is associated with reduced complication rates and is less uncomfortable for patients. ⋯ Our results reinforce prior evidence that the INFIX method is safe for fixating pelvic ring lesions. Most of our patients also experienced excellent or good functional recovery, suggesting that this technique is a viable option for treating certain pelvic ring injuries.

The reverse sural artery flap (RSAF) is widely used to reconstruct foot and ankle defects. Although it is commonly used in a nonsensate type, there has been controversy as to whether it provides sufficient stability and durability when applied to weight-bearing heels. The aim of this study was to evaluate patient outcomes after weight-bearing heel coverage using a nonsensate RSAF. ⋯ The results of this study suggest that patients who underwent nonsensate RSAF for the reconstruction of the heel could expect to maintain the property for stable weight-bearing without pressure sore.

Non-operative treatment is an exceptional indication for the treatment of proximal femur fracture. The aim of the study was to analyze the mortality rate in one year and associated factors in severely ill patients submitted to non-operative treatment. ⋯ The conclusion is that the mortality rate in one year of ill patients with hip fractures treated non-operatively is 42.8% without correlation with age, gender of number of comorbidities, and the functional result of the survived patients is poor.

Femoral shaft fractures (FSFs) are associated with significant blood loss, resulting in anemia and hemorrhagic shock. However, there has been limited data for the blood loss of FSFs during the whole perioperative period. Our primary aim is to quantify the blood loss associated with FSFs treated with intramedullary nail or locking compression plate fixation, as well as to identify the relative affecting factors for perioperative hidden blood loss (HBL). ⋯ Patients of FSFs had significant TBL and HBL, the amount of which was much larger than that observed intra-operatively. Moreover, two readily available preoperative factors for nail fixation and Type-C were associated with a higher likelihood of more HBL. Therefore, it was argued that regular perioperative monitoring and timely blood transfusion were crucially important for patients to avoid possible risks of anemia and facilitate recovery.

Instability of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) commonly results from traumatic disruption of the distal radioulnar ligaments of the triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC). Treatment of this rupture typically requires immobilization of the wrist and elbow for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. This study evaluated the hypothesis that treatment of DRUJ instability with dynamic stabilization would allow early mobilization of both the radiocarpal and distal radioulnar joints by the first postoperative week without compromising restoration of TFCC integrity. ⋯ Acute DRUJ instability treated with dynamic stabilization led to satisfactory clinical outcomes in terms of range of motion, pain relief and joint stability, allowing DRUJ movement from the first postoperative week. This technique represents a simple, reproducible and minimally invasive procedure with a low rate of implant related complications.
