The goal of the current study was to describe the results of an innovative standardized approach to prevent wound complications in patients with PAD sustaining fractures below the knee. ⋯ Endovascular intervention prior to surgical fixation resulted in a low complication rate after surgical fixation of fractures below the knee in patients with PAD. These results emphasize the crucial role of limb perfusion for adequate wound healing in lower limb fractures. Therefore, examination of limb perfusion should be an integral part of preoperative preparation of patients at high risk for PAD presenting with fractures below the knee. Endovascular recanalization seems to be an appropriate method to prevent wound complications.

As most patients with polytrauma or open fractures are converted from temporary external fixation to definite stabilization, the prevention of complications such as infection is especially important. To overcome the high risk of infection associated with the use of the conventional bicortical pin for temporary external fixation, the authors developed a novel unicortical pin and analyzed it in a biomechanical study. ⋯ Compared with the conventional bicortical pin, the newly designed unicortical pin significantly increased fracture stability under both axial compressive and torsional loads. The unicortical pin can be considered an alternative biomechanical solution to obtain adequate stability when performing external fixation of fractures.

Objective evaluation of the ``scratch collapse test'' for the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome.
Evaluate the Scratch Collapse Test in an objective way, by replacing the subjective evaluation made by the physician with an objective evaluation measure, made with a digital dynamometer. ⋯ The Scratch Collapse Test is not a valid diagnostic exam for carpal tunnel syndrome if the strength is measured in an objective manner.

Basicervical femoral neck fracture is associated with high rates of failure due instability patterns, mainly collapse and rotational instability. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical-radiological results of a group of patients with a bascervical proximal femoral fractures treated with Percutaneous Compression Plate (PCCP). ⋯ PCCP is an appropriated implant for basicervical femoral neck fractures.

Excellent results have been published in the treatment of the trochanteric fractures in the elderly with cephalomedullary nails or compression hip screws but not free of complications. The perforation of the lag screw through the superior cortex of femoral neck or head followed by rotation and varus collapse of the head-neck fragment, also known as cut-out, is one of them. Probably total hip arthroplasty is the most common solution, but there is no systematic technique for treatment. The objective of this study is to evaluate the results obtained in the treatment of this complication using a variable angle femoral plate. ⋯ The use of variable angle femoral plate in the cut-out treatment is an attractive option which allows the valgization of the fracture to virtually physiological limits and the placement of the cephalic screw in the most sutiable position with good outcomes and few complications.
