The implementation of trauma registries has proven a highly effective means of injury control. However, many low and middle-income countries lack trauma registries. Those that have trauma registries vary widely in terms of both implementation and structure. We sought to identify the most common barriers that stand in the way of sustainable trauma registry implementation, and the types of strategies that have proven successful in overcoming these barriers. ⋯ Though trauma registry implementation and structure may differ from place to place, there are many shared barriers and facilitators that can be learned from. Identifying these common experiences can help create a repository of knowledge that can better serve those looking to implement their own trauma registries in similar settings.

Ankle sprain lesions are the most common ligament lesions in humans. One particularly dangerous consequence of this pathology is an inability to quickly and sufficiently depress the brake pedal when driving a car. The high incidence of the lesion, in the context of a society that is highly automobile-dependent, makes the question "When can a patient safely drive a car again?" of particular socioeconomic importance. ⋯ Four weeks post injury, patients generally had a sufficient BRT to drive in traffic safely. Some patients could achieve sufficient BRTs at an earlier stage. All patients with sufficient BRTs had an AOFAS-AHS score of ≥81 points. The AOFAS-AHS score can therefore be regarded as an adequate screening tool to evaluate which patients are ready to safely operate motor vehicles earlier.

The technique for placing iliosacral screws typically involves the surgeon using an inlet and outlet view as the primary means for assessing the anteroposterior and craniocaudal position of the guidewire, respectively. However, because these views are rarely, if ever, orthogonal to one another, this technique will inevitably lead to unintentional biplanar movements. ⋯ Here we calculate the degree and magnitude of these unintentional movements. Additionally, we provide a simple technique for minimizing or eliminating them altogether.

The purpose of this study was to construct a rat caudal vertebral body fracture model and to analyze the association and histological characteristics of vertebral body fracture with endplate injury and adjacent intervertebral disc degeneration. ⋯ In rat caudal vertebral body fractures, a fracture with endplate injury is more likely to induce or accelerate degeneration of adjacent intervertebral discs.
