The sport of surfing has grown exponentially. Early studies of surfing injuries are outdated as newer and more accessible surf technology has become available. This study's goal was to describe surfing injury patterns, incidence, and disposition of pediatric and adult surfers. ⋯ The incidence of surfing injuries is continuing to decline despite more people surfing, revealing the improved safety of the sport over the last decade. Head/neck/face injuries are common injury locations, and pediatric surfers are particularly at increased risk of concussions. Continued education, usage of safety equipment such as protective headgear, and awareness of injury patterns, could further lessen potential injuries.

Surgical management of chest wall injuries is a common procedure. However, operative techniques are diverse, and no universal guidelines exist. There is a lack of studies comparing the outcome with different operative techniques for chest wall surgery. The aim of this study was to compare hospital outcomes between patients operated for chest wall injuries with a conventional method with large incisions and often a thoracotomy or a minimally invasive, muscle sparing method. ⋯ Our study indicates that a minimally invasive technique was favorable regarding clinical outcomes for patients operated for chest wall injuries.

Recovery after fractures due to accidents relates to all aspects of the biopsychosocial model. Therefore, it is difficult for the patients to foresee the consequences of the fractures. This study aimed to examine 1) patients' expectations regarding the impact of the injury on everyday life, 2) predictive validity of their expectations after six months, and 3) factors that predict a return to work. ⋯ A few days after the accident, patients' expectations about everyday life are not associated with outcomes six months later. Likelihood ratios indicate difficulties for the patients in predicting fractures' consequences on various aspects of everyday life. Return to work was associated with self-rated health and the bother index of SMFA. Future research should examine if fracture patients can benefit from comprehensive, individual counseling during admission to set appropriate expectations.

Comminuted inferior patellar pole fractures are challenging injuries and require adequate treatment due to the extension mechanism of the knee. ⋯ The separate vertical fixation by wires and titanium cables is an effective fixation method for treating displaced, comminuted inferior pole fractures, which attributes to early exercise and better function.

Ruptured finger distal interphalangeal (DIP) collateral ligament is a rare injury, with controversial treatment until the present. Our case series aimed to demonstrate feasible surgical intervention using a mini anchor. ⋯ Ruptured finger DIP joint ligament requiring surgery is usually based on a combination with other soft tissue injuries and defects. However, repair with a 1.0 mm mini anchor is a feasible surgical intervention to reattach the ligament with minimal complication.
