Despite the existence of a national motorcycle helmet law that applies to both riders and pillion riders, the use of helmets among female pillion riders is low in Pakistan. This study aimed to explore perceptions, barriers, and strategies related to helmet use by female pillion riders. ⋯ Motorcycles are a risky mode of transport, and there are several social and cultural barriers regarding helmet use by female pillion riders. Enforcing helmet laws for female pillion riders, raising awareness about helmet laws, and making helmet use among pillion riders a norm are some essential steps to take to promote helmet use among female pillion riders in Pakistan.

Hip fractures often occur in medically complex patients and can be associated with high perioperative mortality. Mortality risk assessment tools that are specific to hip fracture patients have not been extensively studied. The objective of this study is to evaluate a recently published 30-day mortality risk calculator (Hip Fracture Estimator of Mortality Amsterdam [HEMA]) in a group of patients treated at a university health system. ⋯ IV.

Acute compartment syndrome (ACS) is a severe medical condition that, if left untreated, can cause permanent nerve and muscle damage, and may even require amputation. The objective of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with the development of ACS in patients with both-bone fractures of the forearm. ⋯ Our study identified crush injury, NEU, and CK as significant risk factors for ACS in patients with both-bone forearm fractures. We also determined the cut-off values of NEU and CK, allowing for the individualized evaluation of ACS risk and the implementation of early targeted treatments.

Pelvic and acetabular fractures can result from work-related accidents and frequently require lengthy medical treatments. Consequently, high medical costs as well as delayed or absent return to work can be the consequence. Therefore, we aimed to study the socioeconomic consequences of work-related pelvic and acetabular fractures. ⋯ Work-related pelvic and especially acetabular fractures have a considerable socioeconomic impact in the German Social Accident Insurance. Measures to prevent work-related accidents and to improve treatment of pelvic injuries can help to reduce their socioeconomic burden.

Open elbow arthrolysis (OEA) is an established treatment for posttraumatic elbow stiffness (PTES); however, its efficacy is debatable for some patients. Poor surgical outcomes have been associated with anxiety and depression in other orthopedic conditions, but no studies have examined this association in OEA. In this study, we aimed to determine whether a high preoperative anxiety and depression score is associated with a worse functional outcome in OEA for PTES. ⋯ Level II; Retrospective Design; Prognosis Study.
