Periarticular multimodal analgesia in decreasing perioperative pain in tibial plateau fractures: A double blind randomized controlled pilot study.
The use of periarticular multimodal analgesia injections is increasing and has become commonplace in some surgeries. However, there is no data on the effectiveness of local periarticular multimodal analgesia for tibial plateau fractures. We hypothesized that closed tibial plateau fracture patients receiving the local multimodal analgesic medications would experience a decrease in VAS pain scores. ⋯ Therapeutic Level 1.

Clinical evaluation of automated segmentation for body composition analysis on abdominal L3 CT slices in polytrauma patients.
Sarcopenia is a muscle disease that involves loss of muscle strength and physical function and is associated with adverse health effects. Even though sarcopenia has attracted increasing attention in the literature, many research findings have not yet been translated into clinical practice. In this article, we aim to validate a deep learning neural network for automated segmentation of L3 CT slices and aim to explore the potential for clinical utilization of such a tool for clinical practice. ⋯ A deep learning method for automatic segmentation of truncal muscle, visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue on individual L3 CT slices has been independently validated against expert human-generated results for an enlarged polytrauma registry dataset. Time efficiency, consistency and high accuracy relative to human experts suggest that quantitative body composition analysis with deep learning should is a promising tool for clinical application in a hospital setting.

Functional and radiological outcomes of primary ring fixator versus antibiotic nail in open tibial diaphyseal fractures: A prospective study.
Management of open fractures of tibia is still a matter of debate due to high incidence of infections. Traditionally external fixators have been advocated in managing open tibial fractures. Due to limited efficacy of systemic antibiotics, recently antibiotic coated intramedullary interlocking nails have been developed for the management of open tibia fractures. Therefore, we conducted this prospective randomized study to compare the functional and radiological outcomes of primary ring fixator versus antibiotic coated nail in open diaphyseal tibial fractures. ⋯ Level II.

Evaluation of the effects of using 3D - patient specific models of displaced intra - articular calcaneal fractures in surgery.
It was aimed to compare conventional surgery and three-dimensional (3D) model-assisted surgery used in the treatment of calcaneal fractures. ⋯ Compared to the conventional group, the 3D model-assisted group provide successful intervention and reduce operation, instrumentation time and the fluoroscopy usage with less blood loss. Performing 3D-assisted surgery helps the quality of reduction during the surgery and stability of internal fixation to protect achieved reduction at follow-up more succesfully.
