Impact of acute cocaine use on aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.
Acute cocaine use has been temporally associated with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). This study analyzes the impact of cocaine use on patient presentation, complications, and outcomes. ⋯ Acute cocaine use was associated with a higher risk of aneurysm rerupture and hospital mortality after aSAH.

To investigate relationships between the degree of early reperfusion achieved on perfusion-weighted imaging and clinical outcomes in the Diffusion and Perfusion Imaging Evaluation for Understanding Stroke Evolution studies. We hypothesized that there would be a strong correlation between the degree of reperfusion achieved and clinical outcomes in target mismatch (TMM) patients. ⋯ The degree of reperfusion documented on perfusion-weighted imaging after reperfusion therapies corresponds closely with clinical outcomes in TMM patients. Reperfusion of ≥90% of the perfusion lesion is an appropriate goal for reperfusion therapies to aspire to.

Progression of carotid plaque volume predicts cardiovascular events.
Carotid ultrasound evaluation of intima-media thickness (IMT) and plaque burden has been used for risk stratification and for evaluation of antiatherosclerotic therapies. Increasing evidence indicates that measuring plaque burden is superior to measuring IMT for both purposes. We compared progression/regression of IMT, total plaque area (TPA), and total plaque volume (TPV) as predictors of cardiovascular outcomes. ⋯ For assessment of response to antiatherosclerotic therapy, measurement of TPV is superior to both IMT and TPA.

Various grading scores to predict survival after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) have been described. We aimed to test the accuracy and clinical usefulness of 3 well-known scores (original ICH score, modified ICH score, and ICH grading scale) in a large unselected cohort of typical ICH patients. ⋯ Although existing grading scores are highly predictive of 30-day mortality, GCS alone was as predictive in our cohort, but age was not.

Hemodynamic changes by flow diverters in rabbit aneurysm models: a computational fluid dynamic study based on micro-computed tomography reconstruction.
The effect of flow diverter (FD) on hemodynamic changes observed in aneurysms is inevitably affected by the actual structural configuration of deployed FD. We studied the resultant hemodynamic changes after implantation of FDs using computational fluid dynamic simulations based on micro-computed tomography reconstructions in rabbit aneurysm model. ⋯ This study provided the real structural configurations of fully deployed FDs in vivo. We demonstrated the decrease of wall shear stress, inflow volume, increase of relative residence time, and change of inflow stream induced by FD implantation. The higher relative residence time increment, percentage of inflow volume reduction, and location of stream inlet near the central part of the neck may be closely related to healing.
