Multicenter Study Clinical Trial Observational Study
Coagulation Testing in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients Taking Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants.
In patients who present with acute ischemic stroke while on treatment with non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants (NOACs), coagulation testing is necessary to confirm the eligibility for thrombolytic therapy. We evaluated the current use of coagulation testing in routine clinical practice in patients who were on NOAC treatment at the time of acute ischemic stroke. ⋯ URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Dissociation of Early and Delayed Cerebral Infarction After Aneurysmal Subarachnoid Hemorrhage.
Cerebral infarction after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is a significant cause of substantial morbidity and mortality. Because early and delayed cerebral infarction after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage may be mediated by different processes, we evaluated whether aneurysm-securing methods contributed to infarcts and whether long-term outcomes differ between early and delayed infarcts. ⋯ URL: http://www.clinicaltrials.gov. Unique identifier: NCT00111085.

Early markers for cerebral amyloid angiopathy are largely unknown. We aimed to identify which magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (performed at 7 and 3T) and cognitive markers are an early sign in (pre) symptomatic subjects with hereditary cerebral hemorrhage with amyloidosis-Dutch type. ⋯ White matter hyperintensities and microinfarcts are more prevalent among presymptomatic subjects and precede cognitive and neuropsychiatric symptoms and intracerebral hemorrhages.

A ruptured intracranial aneurysm (IA) is the leading cause of a subarachnoid hemorrhage. This study seeks to define a specific gene whose mutation leads to disease. ⋯ This report identifies THSD1 mutations in familial and sporadic IA patients and shows that THSD1 loss results in cerebral bleeding in 2 animal models. This finding provides new insight into IA and subarachnoid hemorrhage pathogenesis and provides new understanding of THSD1 function, which includes endothelial cell to extracellular matrix adhesion.
