Feasibility of web-based self-triage by parents of children with influenza-like illness: a cautionary tale.
Self-triage using web-based decision support could be a useful way to encourage appropriate care-seeking behavior and reduce health system surge in epidemics. However, the feasibility and safety of this strategy have not previously been evaluated. ⋯ This pilot study suggests that web-based decision support to help parents and adult caregivers self-triage children with influenza-like illness is feasible. However, prospective refinement of the clinical algorithm is needed to improve its specificity without compromising patient safety.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Inpatient growth and resource use in 28 children's hospitals: a longitudinal, multi-institutional study.
To compare inpatient resource use trends for healthy children and children with chronic health conditions of varying degrees of medical complexity. ⋯ Patients with a chronic condition increasingly used more resources in a group of children's hospitals than patients without a chronic condition. The greatest growth was observed in hospitalized children with chronic conditions affecting 2 or more body systems. Children's hospitals must ensure that their inpatient care systems and payment structures are equipped to meet the protean needs of this important population of children.

Clinical Trial
Prospective evaluation of point-of-care ultrasonography for the diagnosis of pneumonia in children and young adults.
To determine the accuracy of point-of-care ultrasonography for the diagnosis of pneumonia in children and young adults by a group of clinicians. ⋯ Clinicians are able to diagnose pneumonia in children and young adults using point-of-care ultrasonography, with high specificity.

To investigate the risk of self-injury in parentally cancer-bereaved youth compared with their nonbereaved peers. ⋯ One-fifth of cancer-bereaved youth reported self-injury, representing twice the odds for self-injury in their nonbereaved peers, regardless of any of the adjustments we made. Raised awareness on a broad basis in health care and allied disciplines would enable identification and support provision to this vulnerable group.
