The present study is aimed at evaluating the effect of combined treatment on massive bone defect using radical debridement, antibiotic calcium sulphate, and monolateral external fixator. ⋯ Our study reveals that radical debridement combined with antibiotics-impregnated calcium sulphate can suppress infection, and distraction osteogenesis using monolateral external fixators plays an effective role in managing osteomyelitis-induced massive tibial bone defect.

This study aims to explore whether extracorporeal shockwave treatment (ESWT) based on the theory of fascial manipulation (FM) at select treatment points is superior to traditional local ESWT for pain relief in adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder. ⋯ ESWT-FM provided faster pain relief and slightly more notable improvement of function compared with L-ESWT for the patients with adhesive capsulitis of shoulder.

This study aimed to determine the kinetics of four inflammatory markers and to identify the variables that affect the natural kinetics of inflammatory markers in aged patients having hip fractures with and without elevated preoperative CRP. 240 elderly patients who have been operated on for femoral neck fracture with no infectious complications were divided into two groups on elevated preoperative CRP level (>10 mg/L). The temporal values of four inflammatory markers of WBC, neutrophil count (N) (%), ESR, and CRP were assessed eight times every other day until the 14th postoperative day. ⋯ For WBC, N (%), and ESR, both groups showed similar patterns of temporal values 14 days after surgery regardless of preoperative CRP level. Our findings could be used as guidelines for patient discharge and during the follow-up period after surgery.

Levosimendan in Patients with Left Ventricular Dysfunction Undergoing Cardiac Surgery: An Update Meta-Analysis and Trial Sequential Analysis.
Recent studies suggest that levosimendan does not provide mortality benefit in patients with low cardiac output syndrome undergoing cardiac surgery. These results conflict with previous findings. The aim of the current study is to assess whether levosimendan reduces postoperative mortality in patients with impaired left ventricular function (mean EF ≤ 40%) undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ Levosimendan reduces the rate of death and other adverse outcomes in patients with low ejection fraction who were undergoing cardiac surgery, but results remain inconclusive. More large-volume randomized clinical trials (RCTs) are warranted.

Bayesian Network Meta-Analysis of the Effectiveness of Various Interventions for Nontraumatic Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head.
To assess the effectiveness of various therapeutic hip preservation strategies on patients with nontraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). ⋯ ESW therapy (ESWT) is the most effective intervention to improve HHS, and VFG shows superior effect on reducing treatment failure rates.
