To identify candidate key genes and miRNAs associated with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) development and prognosis, the gene expression profiles and miRNA microarray data including GSE20347, GSE38129, GSE23400, and GSE55856 were downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Clinical and survival data were retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) was analyzed via DAVID, while the DEG-associated protein-protein interaction network (PPI) was constructed using the STRING database. ⋯ Survival analysis revealed that 85 DEMs were related to prognosis, among which hsa-miR-1248, hsa-miR-1291, hsa-miR-421, and hsa-miR-7-5p were used for a prognostic survival model. Taken together, this study revealed the important roles of DEGs and DEMs in ESCC development, as well as DEMs in the prognosis of ESCC. This will provide potential therapeutic targets and prognostic predictors for ESCC.

After curative surgical resection, about 30-75% lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) patients suffer from recurrence with dismal survival outcomes. Identification of patients with high risk of recurrence to impose intense therapy is urgently needed. ⋯ Our recurrence-specific gene-based prognostic prediction model provides extra information about the risk of recurrence in LUAD, which is conducive for clinicians to conduct individualized therapy in clinic.

Developmental Timing Determines the Protective Effect of Maternal Electroacupuncture on Perinatal Nicotine Exposure-Induced Offspring Lung Phenotype.
Introduction. Environmental exposure of the developing offspring to cigarette smoke or nicotine is an important predisposing factor for many chronic respiratory conditions, such as asthma, emphysema, pulmonary fibrosis, and so forth, in the exposed offspring. Studies showed that electroacupuncture (EA) applied to maternal "Zusanli" (ST36) acupoints during pregnancy and lactation protects against perinatal nicotine exposure- (PNE-) induced lung damage. However, the most effective time period, that is, prenatal vs. postnatal, to attain this effect has not been determined.

Sympathetic sprouting in the dorsal root ganglion (DRG) following nerve injuries had been proved to induce adult neuropathic pain. However, it is unclear whether the abnormal sprouting occurs in infant nerve injury. ⋯ The delayed-onset mechanical allodynia in the infant nerve lesion was accompanied with parallel sympathetic sprouting in DRG. The late parallel expression of glial p75NTR injury may play an essential role in this process, which provides novel insight into the treatment of delayed adolescent neuropathic pain.

To study demographic and clinical characteristics and to give a comparative description of the functional and hemodynamic status, profile of concomitant pathology in patients with various forms of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) according to the Russian National Registry. ⋯ According to the Russian registry in patients with PAH and IPAH, the diagnosis is established at a younger age in comparison with the European registries. CTEPH patients are characterized by more severe functional status, pronounced signs of right heart failure taking into account the older age and the spectrum of comorbid pathology, which limits the possibility of surgical treatment. An increase in the number of expert centers participating in the registry is the key to improving early diagnosis of PH and optimal follow-up according to common standards in order to timely optimize therapy and reduce mortality of patients.
