Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyComparison of intravenous dexketoprofen and dipyrone in acute renal colic.
The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of a single intravenous (i.v.) bolus of dexketoprofen trometamol compared with an i.v. infusion of dipyrone in patients with moderate to severe pain due to renal colic. ⋯ Dexketoprofen 50 mg administered as a single i.v. bolus was effective for the relief of moderate to severe pain in patients with renal colic, with a good safety profile and efficacy similar to i.v. dipyrone 2 g. Dexketoprofen produced analgesia that was faster in onset.

Multicenter StudyAge and sex-related differences in dose-dependent hemodynamic response to landiolol hydrochloride during general anesthesia.
Landiolol hydrochloride is a new ultra-short-acting beta(1)-adrenergic receptor blocking agent that is used for patients with tachycardia during general anesthesia. The hemodynamic response to a beta-adrenergic receptor blocking agent is generally dependent on the subject. In the present investigation we investigated the effects of age and sex on the hemodynamic response to different doses of landiolol. ⋯ The logistic function reliably represents the hemodynamic responses to landiolol. Landiolol reduces HR rapidly and in a dose-dependent manner whereas landiolol-induced changes in sBP and dBP are independent of dose. A larger decrease in HR is caused by landiolol in elderly patients, but there is no sex difference in the landiolol-induced change in HR.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study Clinical TrialIntravenously administered digoxin in patients with acute atrial fibrillation: a population pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic analysis based on the Digitalis in Acute Atrial Fibrillation trial.
Atrial fibrillation is commonly treated with intravenously administered digoxin. The main objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between plasma concentration of digoxin and heart rate. ⋯ A PK/PD model for the relationship between the plasma concentration of digoxin, the estimated concentration at the effect site and the reduction in heart rate during atrial fibrillation could be defined using a population pharmacokinetic approach. Our data indicate that a more aggressive dosing regimen of digoxin may be more effective in terms of heart rate reduction.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialThe use of analgesic drugs in postoperative patients: the neglected problem of pain control in intensive care units. An observational, prospective, multicenter study in 128 Italian intensive care units.
The use of analgesic drugs in patients admitted to Italian intensive care units (ICUs) was assessed. ⋯ Management of postoperative pain in Italian ICUs was insufficient, particularly in neurosurgical and comatose patients. A general lack of knowledge about pain and misconceptions about pain drugs may be at the basis of these results.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialAn investigation into the efficacy of intravenous diclofenac in post-operative dental pain.
To evaluate the efficacy of single doses of intravenous diclofenac sodium (25, 50 and 75 mg) in patients with post-operative pain after third-molar surgery in a randomised, placebo-controlled study. ⋯ Single doses of i.v. diclofenac (25, 50 and 75 mg) provide significant pain relief after third-molar surgery. The efficacy of this preparation does not appear to be dose related.
