Audit of the use of IVC filters in the UK: experience from three centres over 12 years.
To audit the use of inferior vena cava (IVC) filter insertions at three UK centres over 12 years to assess whether trends in filter use in the UK mirrored those seen elsewhere. ⋯ IVC filter use in the UK is increasing. The use of retrievable filters has not resulted in increased filter retrieval. Filter insertion and retrieval is associated with a low risk of significant complication, but lack of systematic follow-up limits conclusions regarding safety and efficacy.

To assess the technical feasibility and initial success of aspiration thrombectomy as a potential alternative to lytic therapy in initial endovascular management of acute lower extremity deep vein thrombosis (DVT). ⋯ Aspiration thrombectomy without catheter-directed thrombolysis is a safe and effective treatment for acute DVT of the lower extremities, and minimizes the risk of haemorrhagic complications.

To review and describe the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) features in patients with suspected placental invasion and correlate the findings with surgery and pathology findings. ⋯ MRI features, which were described in patients with placental invasion in an earlier series, were useful in establishing the presence and depth of placental invasion.

Pulmonary cysts, cavities, and honeycombing are seen in a number of systemic disorders. The purpose of this review is to discuss the findings on thin-section computed tomography (CT) in both congenital and acquired multisystem conditions that give rise to multiple cystic spaces in the lungs. Conditions discussed include lymphangioleiomyomatosis, Langerhan's cell histiocytosis, lymphocytic interstitial pneumonia, and Birt-Hogg-Dubé syndrome, with reference to specific features that may be helpful in the differentiation of these conditions on CT.

The traditional imaging of Crohn's disease has relied on barium and computed tomography (CT) examinations. In recent years magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as an imaging method that can be used in the diagnosis and assessment of Crohn's disease. ⋯ The clinical progression of Crohn's disease can be variable, and MRI can be used to assess inflammatory status, disease progression, and complications of Crohn's disease. MRI of the small bowel is an evolving technique and it has the potential to become the preferred technique for imaging of small bowel Crohn's disease in the future.
