Hypercapnia events are common in women receiving 150 mcg intrathecal morphine for cesarean delivery, although clinical significance is uncertain.

ReviewNarrative Review of Statistical Reporting Checklists, Mandatory Statistical Editing, and Rectifying Common Problems in the Reporting of Scientific Articles.
Considerable attention has been drawn to poor reproducibility in the biomedical literature. One explanation is inadequate reporting of statistical methods by authors and inadequate assessment of statistical reporting and methods during peer review. In this narrative review, we examine scientific studies of several well-publicized efforts to improve statistical reporting. ⋯ Third, statistical review is needed for all papers that involve data analysis. A consistent finding in the studies was that nonstatistical reviewers (eg, "scientific reviewers") and journal editors generally poorly assess statistical quality. We finish by discussing our experience with statistical review at Anesthesia & Analgesia from 2006 to 2016.

Landmark-Guided and Ultrasound-Guided Approaches for Trochanteric Bursa Injection: A Cadaveric Study.
Trochanteric bursa (TB) injection with local anesthetic and corticosteroid is a treatment for patients suffering from greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Both landmark (LM)-guided and ultrasound (US)-guided methods have been used, but their accuracies have not been determined. This study examined the accuracy of these injections with cadaveric dissection. ⋯ This is the first cadaveric study examining the accuracy of both the US-guided and LM-guided techniques for TB injection. Future clinical studies are required to compare the outcomes of LM-guided and US-guided greater trochanteric pain syndrome injection.

Multicenter StudyPrediction of Opioid Analgesic Efficacy by Measurement of Pupillary Unrest.
Pupillary unrest under ambient light (PUAL) is the fluctuation in pupil diameter in time around a mean value. PUAL is augmented by light and diminished by administration of opioids. We hypothesized that, because pupillary unrest is a marker of opioid effect, low levels of PUAL may be associated with reduced opioid efficacy, as measured by changes in the numerical rating scale (NRS) pain scores of patients in the postanesthesia care unit (PACU). ⋯ We observe that the pretreatment magnitude of PUAL is correlated with the analgesic response to opioid therapy, and that patients who exhibit higher levels of PUAL change after opioid administration have a more beneficial analgesic effect from opioids. Larger studies with uniform measurement protocols are required to confirm these preliminary results.
