The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a Self-Administered Behavioral Intervention using Tailored messages (SEABIT) for migraine. The primary measures were headache days, headache-related disability, behavioral/emotional factors, and headache-related beliefs. ⋯ The findings suggest that the SEABIT for migraine prevention is an effective behavioral intervention that potentially could be accessed and distributed in a variety of settings including primary care.

(1) To determine whether the attack characteristics of migraine differ between different intervals of the menstrual cycle; (2) To ascertain whether the "rate of change,"magnitude of change," or "total burden" of urinary hormone metabolites correlates with headaches outcome measures during different intervals of the menstrual cycle. ⋯ Migraine headache is more severe, disabling, and frequent during the menstrual intervals of the female reproductive cycle than during mid-luteal or mid-cycle intervals. Progesterone metabolites may play a role in modulating migraine headaches during luteal intervals of the menstrual cycle.

Lumiracoxib is effective in the treatment of episodic tension-type headache.
To evaluate the efficacy of single doses of lumiracoxib, the most selective cyclo-oxygenase (COX)-2 inhibitor, in the treatment of episodic tension-type headache (ETTH), with particular emphasis on time to onset of analgesia. ⋯ Single 200 or 400 mg doses of lumiracoxib provided rapid and effective relief from the acute pain associated with ETTH.

To determine the operating characteristics and predictive value of abbreviated criteria for the diagnosis of migraine headache. ⋯ The single-variable model of nausea and the three-variable models of nausea/photophobia/worse with exertion and nausea/phonophobia/pulsating can effectively predict migraine in diverse clinical settings. These models however, should only be applied after a careful exclusion of secondary headache disorders.

Increased plasma transforming growth factor-beta1 in migraine.
Migraine is characterized by the peripheral and central sensitization of pain perceptive neural systems, and neurogenic inflammation is a key step in the development of migraine headache. We focused on transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1), which is a multifunctional proinflammatory cytokine. To address the possibility of TGF-beta1 involvement in migraine, we investigated the plasma level of TGF-beta1 in patients with migraine headache during headache-free periods. ⋯ TGF-beta1 in PPP was significantly increased in patients with migraine during headache-free periods. TGF-beta1 may play some role in the development of migraine headache.
